Metal Lathe

Not sure about placing this question here but anyway there are several of you out there that have lathes and mills and do you own work on making whatever! I have come across a lathe that looks to be a in good shape, my quesion is has any of you heard of a Frejoth lathe I did some searching on it going to do some more, some searching I did there were some that came up for sale but really didn’t see any specs or info on it. If you have any info let me know if they are Good Bad or Ugly!! this one is 220 volts 11/2 hp I think it was single phase looked to be able to thread most standard and metric threads with it anyway if you would or know anything about this brand of lathe let me know thanks Eddie

If you do get ahold of a three phase unit, a VFD will drive it nicely fro 220 or 120 SP

When selecting a VFD using a single phase input you derate it to 66%
so if you want to drive a 3hp load from a single phase supply you would purchase a 5hp VFD.
After that its all good 🙂
I run my 20×80 Kingston on a VFD from a 240VAC single phase and my Holke 10×50 mill is run by a small VFD piece of cake!

Thanks for the info so far I am not positve on the voltage I will have to ask the guy that has it but If I remember talking with him through a couple emails he did say it was 220 volt single phase so it is possible someone may have put a different motor or such on it I will have to give him a call email sometimes is hard to get everything in seems like you always forget some things. I found some on the internet for sale but still am not sure where they are made for sure.

I had a chance two years back to buy a leblond lathe I used to run 6 of them where I worked in my opinion one of the best lathes made but I didn’t buy it price was good to oh well they make them and sell them every day so I am going to keep looking someday something will come up thanks for the input from all of you so far.

for three phase all you need do is add a VFD variable frequency drive and they are cheaper than a new motor while retaining all the benefits of three phase on the machine.

I have a 9×20 Enco lathe (Chineese). With the proper uprades and mods it can be a great machine.

There are forums dedicated nothing but 9×20’s and moding them.

I got mine with the cabinet stand for under $1K

A lot to Taiwan stuff is fairly good. Some is very in hobbyist size machines. Usually better than the typical Chinese machines. Trouble is, getting hard to find the Taiwanese machines now days. Most are Chinese in this class of machinery.

220 here in the States is single phase. I have most of my grinders on 220. And it is Cheaper to operate, and cooler with higher torque than 1 phase. If it wasn’t , I wouldn’t have switched to it! 😆

Unless it’s a europe motor than single phase is 220V 3 phase is 380V.

Well 3phase is actually 3 times 220V with every sine 1/3the period from the other giving a net voltage of 380V. But the same goes for 115V and 220V 3 phase.

But from what I can see in the google pics it’s a decent enough machine. Plenty sturdy to do most airgun stuff.

I know that dude ! I was trying to think of something funny to retort with….

if it’s 220v i doubt it’s a single phase; more likely a three phase. and the motor on 220v equipment is usually more than 1.5HP.

220v equipment costs more to operate and your house/shop has to have the proper wiring and circuit breakers to carry the load. most garage shop equipment is 120v…the 220v is more often associated with commercial applications.

someone may have replaced the original 220v motor with a single phase 115v motor in which case it will probably operate but not as well as designed. the concept is simple; 220v motors work much harder than 115v motors.

look into it farther. you may have a good deal…you may not.
