Mil-Dot Side Focus Scope Suggestions
Well… I have had a few scopes now.. some for months, some for days… and still have not found exactly what I want.
Requests: Mil-Dot, Side Focus, 10yd Paralax, Adjustable Power no higher than 6x on low power, and no smaller than 14x on high power. Good eye relief. Around 500 buck range.
Tried:
Bushnell Legend 5x-15x: (Love it. Its what I use now… but I want side focus instead of the hard to turn AO, and I want a better eye relief.
Bushnell 3200: (AO easier to turn, but I thought the Legend had better light output and image clarity)
Bushnell 4200: (AO much better but not side focus, image very sharp and bright, BUT it was just toooo long for my taste. I need something less long. I want a scope on my rifle, not a rifle on my scope)
Anyone else have any suggestions for a good side focus mildot scope with good eye relief and good clarity. At least quality of the Legend, but more towards the quality of a 4200 Bushnell without getting into the 1000k range. I know some have had sucess with leapers, but Id like a little nicer quality.. especially if it in the future finds its way onto my AR-15
PS: Love the Nikon’s I saw today, great clarity and eye relief.. but none focused to less than 50yrd parallax

For the price point that you are looking for, it pretty much rules out the Bushy 6500 which would be a great scope for AG. The Falcon mentioned above has a first focal plane reticle design (there are pros and cons) but you need to be aware of the difference. Another scope you should check out is the Millett TRS. It focuses down to 10yd. with pretty bright optics. The Leapers have good design i.e. AG friendly but QC is erratic. You might get a good one but you might not. I have heard only favourable comments regarding the big ZOS but at 10x mag min., it’s good for FT and not so good for hunting.
Perhaps you should wait for the Hawk Sidewinder which is suppose to be here in a few months time and check that out first before making your decision. It looks very promising on paper anyway.
Overall, I have wasted more money on scopes than anything else so I can relate to your dilemma.
