Q:

Mill & Lathe Purchase…

I’m thinking of getting a small mill and lathe… These are at the top of the list so far…

Lathe-

Anything bad or to avoid?

Thanks!

Have had good luck with grizzly machines for 20 plus years. Make sure that the lathe will take 5c collets. Have fun. JFW

Haven’t got into the shop lately, it’s been cold and wet outside and work has been crazy busy… I did decided on a design and have everything laid out for cutting and drilling, just waiting for a few nice days!

It’s oval so I won’t be using much more than a file and grinder to get it to shape… So the mill and lathe would be little help without possibly a good size rotary table for the mill… 😕

hey syn, how did that end cap turn out.

I just WISH I knew how to operate such machinery as that…my hat’s off to anyone that can use that type equipment..you can make all sorts of stuff…I hope you get which ever is best for oyu!!

Yes but…do not expect too much …. from this Chinese machines

Thanks guys, the 1″ bore would be very, very nice but it’s a bit more expensive…

Some day I would like to upgrade to midsize cnc equipment, so these would merely be something to play with in the interim…

the mill seems great , lots of travle an a good price
, for the lathe id get one with at least a 1” through the head , i have a couple small lathes an i alway seem to need the 1” bore .
so i bought a bigger on .
i have one of the mill/ lathes , been happy with it for many years , only 8” travle across , 2 motors . can do powerfeed if you wished for the mill .

Good choice of equipment for a garage shop. I have that lathe and have been very happy with mine. Have a different mill, a Sheridan.

Carl

I’ve heard good things about that Mill.
