More chrony tests!!
Well I have been doing somemore mods to my PCP that have included the following:
1. Custom 90 gram brass hammer will plastic sliders to reduce friction
2. New Airforce valve
3. Tophat adjusted to .065
4. 2600 PSI fill
5. Powerwheel set on 4
6. Polished inside of frame (hammer area)
And well I have the gun shooting pretty good now however I am still trying to get the velocity down. I think since the hammer is longer and heavier it is REALLY smacking the valve. Funny thing is the shot count is really good and pretty consistant.
So here are some pictures for you PCP Gurus to look over, PS I can’t really reduce the tophat clearance much more to reduce the power.

Randy: thanks for the clarification. I think I ‘ll start building a duct seal ball wider than yours, maybe 10-11″ in diameter before my Condor arrives. How many pounds or # of 1lb sticks do you think I will need for that? About 30?
I design networks too (architecture & engineering)! Do you work 55hrs/wk like most of us without overtime pay? The corporate way, right? I have so many project meetings during the day, that I need to work late to do some actual work and finish the Visio drawings and other docs.
I put some of my guns through the Chrony yesterday but this time I turned the room lights off (2-60W bulbs in the ceiling) and just left the Chrony overhead lights on with the rest of the room pretty much dark (blinds down). All the pellets tested in 3 different guns (springers too) recorded higher velocity of about 12-15fps than all the previous times I chronied my guns when I left the regular lights on in the room. Now I ‘m not sure which reading is correct, with the lights out in the room, or on?
I sure like the new higher readings though 🙂
Luckily it wasn’t a big difference in velocity (in my 2240 10.1″ barrel – from 485 to 499fps is kinda of a big jump I guess..hehe) but it just goes to show you that these Chrony overhead lights they sell, greatly depend on external light sources.
lama you probably already know this, but for the others who don’t……Error 1 means the first sensor or “eye” didn’t “see” or pick up the pellet. Error 2 means the second one didn’t catch it. I have noticed good lighting makes all the diff. in the world.
Yep. I always do that now. I have on of my brother’s cheapo little airsoft guns. Instead of wasting air and ammo trying to see if the lighting is right, I just shoot the airsoft gun through it until I get what I’m looking for. With the woods around me, I have to play with it at certain times of the day or the shadows from the trees mess it up. I hate trying to see how it’s doing, and it says “error 1”. When you aren’t getting a lot of shots, it’s a pain.

Still haven’t figured out how the lighting does that, but that was definately the problem.
Yikes 1300 fps with EJs!! Never got that with Eun Jins only if I used 14 grainers. 😀
I thought my gun was shooting super fast like that once. Turned out that too bright of light in the mid day sun was giving me wierd numbers. Mine was like that, 1300fps with .22 eun jins. It was definately wrong though. Chronied it later and it was back to the 950 it was supposed to be.
I think you should put in that .25 barrel and get some of those slugs jerry’s selling. 🙂
Hi Harry, yes I struggled with the lighting for quite awhile guess i was too cheap to order the indoor kit. I found a few things like any overhead tube lighting effected the radings mostly errors and HUGE reading swings. Ended up using 2 – 60 watt bulbs and turned off my overhead lighting as well. the pictures I posted were actuall my camera’s flash (I had to put tape over the sensors or it triggered errors). I then chronied my 2250, Drozd, CR SA6, CR 150, and even my son’s Red Ryder with a final reading done outside so the numbers are good no fluff. 😆
The ball is duct seal around 9″ in diameter and at over 60 ft lbs shooting in one spot is not good at all.
I ended up turned down the tophat a bit more and accuracy and shot count is WAY better. Looks like those .22 Eun Jins start shooting wierd as they get around 1000 fps.
I am using one of Tony’s brass hammers 90 g as I find it just works better then the 2 piece stock hammer and seems to help consistancy.
Not really trying to reduce the power just trying to get a good consistant shot count with good power at 2600 psi using Tony’s hammer and the new condor valve. I have found my gun shoots WAY better then the older Condors with the stock hammer and old valve. I was whacking gophers past 120 yards (lasered, my new toy) wih the new 32 grain EJ’s and just love them!!! Cloverleafs at 50 yards with ease in fact three out of 5 stacked on top of each other not bad for a pointed pellet.
Now just need to get away from the family and do some shooting! 🙄
Funny thing is I really enjoy being around my 4 and 6 year old kids they really make it all worth it after a busy day in the office designing networks.

What is “proper lighting”? How do you accomplish that? If I knew I could use the proper lighting indoors I wouldn’t have bought the Chrony indoor lights, unless it ‘d cost more to get what I need to set up the ‘proper lighting’ in my gun room.
Normally without using the indoor light setup from Chrony, the velocity #’s are higher, but your #’s seem to be right around where they should be, especially since you tested other guns.
What is that big ball you shoot into? duct seal (electrical putty)? What diameter does it have (to be safe), and do you know how deep the pellets penetrate? I have made a silent trap myself with duct seal inside a big steel electrical breakout box, but it’s only about 3″ deep and I don’t even shoot 20fpe guns into it. One of these days I ‘ll try it to see what happens 😮
Finally, if your goal is to reduce the power, wouldn’t you want like a 75-80gr hammer? I guess it’s not that simple? I don’t know, just asking. It just seems to me that you are trying to reduce the power, using a “power setup”… so I ‘m all confused 😯
Currently I can push .25 kodiaks at just under 1000fps. I can break 900 with the 42gr, but barely. I would like to get the 42gr up to 980 or so.
I had Tony make me a 75gm one piece for my .22 shooting, but it doesn’t work well for .25, too light. Worked fantastic for .22 though.
What is the stock weight of the OEM A.F. hammer?
Yeah the polishing was a REAL pain the trigger area was a bugger and you have to go slow. My .25 shooting 42 grainers just rips things up real bad. I usually hunt gophers but Chairgun puts the 29 and 32 grain EJ’s in .22 pretty close as they even blast thru gophers over 120 yards and keep skipping. Found the Kodiaks a little light past 100 yards in wind but .25 option is a masher.
The 110 g hammer made HUGE power but i think i really whacked the valve too hard. seems the 90g is pretty good at around 2500 to 2600 psi fills PW 4. Good shot count pretty consistant and what I hit really stays down. my buddy whacked a Magpie at 40 yards this winter with my .25 using the 42 grainers and he blew away the front of it feathers could be seen for months. Nice thing is it hits hard but with less range and noise of a rimmie.

Nothing wrong with your puter Sam, the server the pics were on must have been down.
Randy, I seem to have misread your original post. I have not polished the inside of my frame, but I have polished the barrel. It makes more sense for the frame to be polished as that is the bearing surface, but Ive heard polishing the frame has to be done very carefully so not to rub thru the work-hardened/anodized surface.
I always overdo those sort of things, so maybe Ill leave it alone and just try the heavier hammer.
What sort of performance did you get with the 110 gram?
And yes, the .25 cal. 42gr rip hell outta stuff, but they whine off into the distance after passing thru a squirrel, and almost sounds like a .22LR ricochet at times. I rarely shoot anything larger than squirrels, and the Kodiaks work great for them. Nothing gets away, even with a less than perfect shot. I cant say the same for .22’s

Yeah Tony’s hammers rock! I had one of his 110’s i think then had it turned down to 90 grams. The new Condor valve, polishing the inside of the frame and no lube seemed to help with the shot consistancy oh and i took off the hammer tape. I will do some outside chrony tests as well just have to get a day pass from the wife as she is watching my Visa like a hawk from my airgunning addiction. 😆
