More on lower pressure Talon SS thoughts
Hey all, been lurking around for a few months, chiming in here and there, but the recent threads I ran across got me to thinking. (Not always a god thing 😈 ) Anyway, since I finally got a couple of days off, so I did a little testing. One reason is currently only owning a hand pump, or have to run to the paintball shop, really need to pick up a nice size tank.
So, I took my 1600 PSI Expert HPA tank, used the CO2 adapter, since this should be in the safe range for the adapter. Here are my results compared to the un-regulated SS tank.
Here is a quick graph showing the results of the shot strings, the average velocity, and energy produced.
As you can see the 1600 PSI regulated tank will provide 17 FtLb’s with CPHP’s, and 18.5 with 21.1 H&N’s.
Obviously the un-regulated SS tank produced higher FPS, and energy coming in at 22FtLb’s for the CPHP’s and 26 FtLb’s of energy.
Groups aren’t great yet, probably doesn’t help shooting from my deck, sitting on the edge of a patio chair, but hey, it’s real world, not from my bench.
Un-regged SS with 21.1 H&N’s made 1″ at 25 yards, I know I can improve this, and 1 1/4″ from the regulated tank.
Power Wheel was set at 7 for all tests.
I think that if your after tree rats within a 50 yard range, you have minute of squirrel head accuracy. I also have not cleaned, or adjusted the trigger yet. I do than on some of the trigger tuning, and safety removal.

So thoughts? I need more practice with the gun, and maybe some cleaning, as I have previously shot 1/2″ groups, granted only 5 shots and all of these are ten shot groups.
Might bump the regulator up to 1800 PSI, which I believe is the highest pressure I’m comfortable with using the CO2 adapter.

I’m only 5’5″ so it’s not bad with the CO2 adapter, but I too think a 22 CU IN tank would be just fine, and you should be able to get at least 80-100 shots I would think. These would be great candidates for Tony’s strap on Wok But.

How does that 13ci tank feel in the l.o.p does it feel a little short.I was looking into getting a 22 and testing that out.
I think with just a bit more tuning, it will stay pretty close in output, but I can squeeze even more shots out of it.

Oh yeah, SPL output with this setup, and a little scotch brite, 12″ from the muzzle is only 90db.

The top hat has not yet been moved,this was just the first run of testing to see if the setup would perform accurately and with enough energy to work 25 to 50 yards max. I am now sure those are in place, so some adjustment of the top hat will be next, as soon as it stops raining here! As to shot count, I was getting easily 40 shots without issue, and still had several hundred PSI before hitting the regulator. Those 40 were counted, and started from right at 2800 PSI, and I stopped right at 1900-2000 PSI. Hope that helps.

i have a few questions for ya whats your tophat at? how man shots are you getting from the 13 ci tank before a noticeable drop off with the 1600 psi regulated tank? thanks tons
Had a little more play time today. Seems I overlooked the JSB 18.1’s during initial testing with the Talon tank. Seems they really like the 1600PSI tank. Averages 672 FPS generating 18.1 FtLbs of energy, and able to stay under 7/8ths of an inch from a shooting bag at 25 yards. Not bad in my opinion, and once I get a little better at shooting this gun.

By the way this was 10 shots not 5, the first 5 were a small ragged hole! 😀

My extracted C02-Condor valve handled 3K psi with absolutely no problems.
If you want to push that bitch to the absolute limit, you can get a top of the line, polished and blueprinted top to bottom Condor valve from Tony TT, it is a bit pricy but the quality and raw power is beyond exceptional.
R & L has a poor man’s “Extreme” modified Condor valve for $72 that just screws into the valve body. Not as fancy as Tony’s, but a vicious beast for the cost, and appears to be reliable so far.
Depends on your budget.
Sometimes you feel the need…the need for power!

Thanks guys, Comet, so far the accuracy does not seem to have taken a hit. I do need to clean it, and see if I can improve my shooting a bit. Does great from my heavy rest. Hoot, thanks for pointing out the valve differences, I had read the adapter has the Condor valve, and just a quick visual verifies that. Did think of switching the valves out, so that was a great point. What is the highest pressure anyone has safely used with the adapter? I know the safe max pressure for CO2 is 1800 PSI, but was just wondering if anyone has used the adapter with a regulated bottle up to 2K. The regulator is an Expert HPA unit, on one of their bottles. I’m not easily offended, and have seen some of the more lively threads, so no issues there, and thanks for the welcome.
The more I shoot this gun, the more I like it!

You do know that the valve used in the C02 adapter is a Condor Hi-Flo valve which can be taken out and used to replace your much less powerful standard Talon valve?
If you ever decide you need more power and won’t use C02, just change valves. The difference is quite noticeable.

My thoughts are you did a nice write up about your tests. I have some questions. Who made the regulator and is the gun more or less accurate, 3000(-300psi)PSI versus 1600 PSI?
If your asking about the piece that the tank is connected to, that’s the Air Force CO2 adapter.
