Mosin Nagant
I bought one of these a few months back for about $120 Its a hex reciver with all matching numbers . The ammo is cheap too . with open sights I can shoot about 4 MOA @ 100 yards . Not the best , But with a little work I hope to cut it down to 2,2.5 MOA.
But still not to bad for a rifle thats 80 years old .
Its cheap to shoot and fires a large round on par with a 30 06 or 308. if a Mosin Nagant cant kill it , it cant be killed.
For the money , you really cant beat it . Ive paid more money for parking tickets. shit you could throw it away when your done .
I enjoy shooting it although I can see how the Russians got creamed trying to use this this thing . Its accurate enough but pretty dam slow to fire.

Yeah hear you on the greater cost of course most of the M39s are in beautiful condition compared to your typical hundred dollar Russian M91
every so often you can pick up an antique M39 off that website for the $200.00 range with finish wear or a slight stock defect…snagged a few from him for resale. Always minty bores!
Gonna pass on the finn’s , I agree , Nicer guns but 3-4 times the price.
If ya got the extra cash, I say go for it. But like most people my bullet buget is limited .
you can tune these fuckers yourself to shoot very nice. no real equipment needed. For $120 a rifle, ya cant go wrong .
I was makeing face shots on targets @ 100 today about 3 inch groups or less . Not too shabby with open sights with an old rife and surplus ammo.
I love my m44, I’ve redone the stock, stock, cut the barrel down to 18.5 inches with a nice recessed target crown and scoped her, let me tell ya.. she is one hell of a nice pig/brush gun!

Hey Lama I just tuned Nagant useing some simple methods the Ruskies used themselves.
It involved buying a small peice of brass sheet at the hobby shop . you can cut it with a heavy duty sissors. I then traced out the parts over the brass with pencil and cut with a sissors .
I sanded the inner wood of the handguard on both sides to free float the barrel a little bit you be surprised how much it touches the barrel. then I took a peice of real leather about 1.5 inch wide I bought at the same hobby shop and wrapped the barrel and the first bracket point from the crown of the barrel.
My groups tightend right up . 😉 watch the vids

What you might want to try is a Finnish M39
these were built on Nagant actions captured from the Soviet Union the couple times the Reds tried to take over Finland
Pistol grip stock, Heavier barrels, better sights and trigger group
these rifles are credited as the most accurate used during WWII.
interesting thing is a great number of the MNs converted by the Finns to M39 spec were manufactured before 1899 which means no FFL or 4473 to transfer
this is even true of the Finn Match rifles used in Olympic event that are starting to trickle on the market
if you pull the action from the stock most all MNs are dated under the upper tang…can’t go by barrel dates as the Soviets refitted and modified old rifles quite a bit.
if you are interested in trying a M39 out there is a fellow right in new york that has a large stock of them he imported years ago including unissued Antique rifles. Done business with him, he is a solid individual

another point is that there is a bit of crap ammo out there that is rather inaccurate
if one really wants to go to town on a M39 you can outfit it with reproduction PEM mounts and a scope
you can also fit it with a specialized mount that allows fitting up Draganov SVD optics or even milspec soviet night vision such as the NSPU
I love my mosins. I have a russian m44. It’s not very good. I can’t shoot it well at all, but it makes lots of fire and noise, so it’s fun.
I also have a finnish m91 that I love. Big long heavy thing, but it is pretty accurate, I like the sights more than the russian ones, and it’s longer so it is easier to aim. It is an awesome rifle, I got lucky and found it at a small pawn shop that thought it was a normal one, so got it at the same price as a normal one. I still like to shoot it.

I havent had the Chance to shoot a 98 , but from handling them at the store they are just a whole different animal . quality from the steel to the wood to engineering . just a great gun
I got one…It is cheap to fire, but not to cool, I would rather shoot the K98 Mauser. I did enjoy the movie Enemy at the Gates. 😀

This is my Beater collection a Mosin Nagant, SKS, K98 Mauser. Not the prettiest of guns, but old school killing technology is cool. The K98 is most accurate of them and I also have a bayonet for it.
