Q:

moving or Turning shroud

I have bought a shroud and made a couple all worked good I have had two shrouds with internal collars that slid over the barrel these are on a 24 inch barrel I should have stated, and I have had one that fit in the frame and nothing touching the barrel, my question is why is it if you turn the shroud the poi changes it is not clipping because the groups are all touching one ragged hole but the poi changes from low to high and right to left depending which way your trun the shroud and tighten the grub screw, I know this has to be something happening to all shrouds just looking for a why and the proper way to set these up all of them I have had bought or made have done this any answers would be great

That’s exactly what i did when I got a shroud from Tony.

Just marked a file line with a marker perpendicular to the grub screw.

Then while inserting the shroud base to the frame, with the shroud inserted halfway into the frame, continue the perpendicular line on the base of the shroud. (The part that eventually gets covered by the frame)

Then I zero my scope……

Everytime I shroud my talon just make sure the line on the frame and the one made on the base of the shroud meets each other.

Its been a year and above with that set up and its dead on…

Yeah but don’t forget to look through the muzzle end once you’ve attached the shroud for the first time and every time is a good practice..

Note ( Ensure the air tank is not on your set up while you look from he muzzle end, for safety reasons.)

no worries mate, I wasnt pissed at all, just allready been burnt by hellping some one out with too many details is all, It all good in my book, I like to help in any way I can, but when someone is aking for pics of the internals red flags go up 😀

yep been playing around some with it thanks for the info, Blue Jay didn’t mean to piss you off with my pm or email to you just looking for some help on getting one made for myself thanks you guys are always a great help

What good old yeller ninja said explanes it well 😉

The pellet passing slightly off center through the holes of the shroud will create more turbulance on one side and push it off center.

Its caused by things not being exactly concrentric – lot’s of things can cause it – the set screws retaining the shroud, the set screws attaching the barrel to the bushing and then bushing to the frame can all add some uneveness.

Whenever mounting a shroud its a good idea to look through the breech and rotate the shroud to make everything look like its lining up best – with same amount of spacing between the circles as you look at a light source. Some people go a step further and shoot a group without, then mount the shroud, and shoot another group – and will keep rotating until the groups match (or are closest) and then mark witness lines on the shroud so they insert it the same way next time.

I only ever shoot with the shroud so whenever I’ve used a removable shroud I skip that just try and take care to mount it the same way each time and snug the set screw (not over tighten) about the same amount each time.

machining aint perfect barrel not perfectly center any number of things
