Q:

MTC Connect Scopes

Have any of you used MTC Viper Connect SL 3-12×24 or MTC Viper Connect 3-12×32 scopes? I wonder how well they have performed and if they would be good for hunting. I am thinking about getting a BP PCP and thought I might want to try one of those Connect scopes. I have a MTC Mamba Lite on my FX Royale and like it fine, but like to try different stuff.
Another question does the rubber eyepiece extension help on a regular rifle scopes? Sometimes it seems like bright days distracts my vision, near the eyepiece.

Surf, how’s the glass? Does your current scope do well in low-light conditions?
thank you,

I would say the glass on the MTC Connect SL was on par with the glass on my Hawke Sidewinder. I didn’t notice and distortion or dark spots on the MTC Connect SL even at it’s highest magnification which is good. My current scopes are a US Optics LR17 Tpal with illumiated Gen2 XR reticle and a Hawke Sidewinder 8-32×56 SR Pro. The US Optics is by far the clearest scope I have ever used and I have no trouble seeing clearly in all lighting conditions. Plus the illuminated reticle is far superior to the MTC and Hawke. Of course, you get what you pay for and the US Optics LR17 retails for around $2500. The Hawke I have has a 56 bell so it does well gathering light. However, the image gets a bit dark at higher magnifications above 25x or so. If shooting in broad daylight, then it okay but if shooting at dusk or in the woods, it’s a bit annoying.

I owned the MTC Viper Connect SL 3-12×24 a while back. For the money, it’s a decent scope. The super short eye relief makes it better suited for bullpups. I used the one piece BKL 30mm offset mounts with this scope which fit perfectly. I never tried the rubber eyepiece extension so I can’t comment on it.

Good:
-Super short eye relief (like eyeball to glass short)
-Excellent Field of View (FOV)
-Light and compact
-Relatively low price

So So:
-Needs offset mounts due to short eye relief
-Knobs are a tad squishy
-Awkward to have two turrets on top (elevation and illumination)

Bad:
-No lens cap on ocular so the glass constantly gets smudges and requires cleaning
-Not much space for scope mounts
-Illuminated reticle very weak
-Poor in low light such as shooting at dusk
