My 257 Condor Build

I am going to start a thread here on my .257 condor build. I bought a older model from AF with a spin lock tank and the older style trigger and safety. It is a new gun just an older model. I wanted black but all they had was blue or red so I chose Blue. It is a .25 Cal. I will probably sell the barrel for some money on this project.

Here is a picture of it with a Hawk scope mounted on it. The TJ barrel is by it and I have the breech end turned down and the muzzle is crowned. I have to get the dimples yet and cut the leade. Also I started a one piece bushing for the barrel. I thought a one piece would help the stiffness of the frame and tie everything together better.

Here is the Crown I did this morning.

The Breech end of the barrel is .374 dia as per Dougs advice. I am buying a valve from him and that size will match his top hat.

That is it so far. I am going to order some delrin so I can get the breech made and some stuff to make a heavier hammer. I will post updates as I get stuff made to this thread. I am excited to do this project.

A big THANK YOU to tofazfou and Doug and all of the people on the forums that post their projects so people like me can learn and do the same thing. To be continued……..

Hey guys,
My name is Mike, I am very interested in making a .257 for myself and my son Dalton, he wants to start competition shooting. I am pretty versed in machining I grew up the son of a tool and die maker and have been turning on lathes and milling since I was like 12….Is there any prints or real step by step instructions for me to achieve this build for me and my son. Have watched all on youtube with Tofazfou and I am amazed and actually HOOKED!!!!!!
Any help is greatly appreciated….

Yeah I use 304 and I think 303 is easier to cut.

Helpful Hints for turning out quality work. Get comfortable! You can’t do your best work when your freezing your ass off. Much less make sharp decisions. (Kinda hard to read a mic. when it is shakeing so hard the numers are a blur!) 🙄

Being a Texican, I hate cold anything, well except Beer and Tea! 😀 In fact, anything below 72 deg. down right pisses me off! 👿

so I tried a new fangled invention. Well, two new fangled inventions Insulation and a Heater!

You got those up North yet? 😆

P.S. One good thing about a Knife Shop is that every thing is HOT!!! 😯

I guess my drawing wasn’t that bad. When you remove material from the hammer you need to keep it cool or it will cook the plastic. I forgot to turn on the coolant one time and found out the hard way.

Thanks Doug. Your drawing was excellent. I appreciate you sending that to me.

Yea stainless seems to create some heat for sure and it seems like it can work harded also if it gets to hot. One pass will seem fine but the next pass can cut hard as a rock. I don’t like working with stainless but this hasn’t been to bad for some reason. I can’t remember the number of it but it is the better machining kind.

It is cold as shit here this morning. It was minus 14 degrees regular temp. My garage was about 10 degrees. To cold to do much but I did rough out a hammer yesterday and this morning drilled and tap the 1/4-28 threaded hole for the hammer. The hammer is made out of Stainless steel. I still got to make the handle for the hammer and cut a groove for the front o-ring that is used as a buffer but it to cold right now and I have family Christmas stuff going on this afternoon.

I got the barrel turned down to 1/2″ where the hammer will slide. The barrel is all done except cutting the leade. Waiting on my sizing die from lee before I cut that.

Next up is making the hammer handle so I can get a weight on it so I know how much to trim my hammer in the middle to get the right weight. Right now just the hammer alone weighs 123 grams. I will shoot for 120 grams total with handle and hammer. Doug suggested this weight for the valve he is making me. After that I need to cut the o-ring grooves for the breech and make a handle for it. Then I will have the innards done.

Hope it warms up some so I can get that stuff done. You all have a Merry Christmas. To be continued………………..

Nice looking gun. Can .257 rifle go to EB in AOA next year? I hope you and Tofazfou to show up there.

Thanks Charlie. I don’t know if a person can or not. A few was disapointed this year because they couldn’t shoot them. I know I wouldn’t be able to go to it. Usually busy at work at that time of year to go.

Absolutely! Shouldn’t let something as insignificant as the cold get in the way of airgun greatness!! 😆 :8:

Thanks Guys. I done a little bit today on the hammer I’m making. It is cold here. Temps -3 tonight and a high of 7 tomorrow plus got 7″ of snow I had to deal with today. I am off from work till Jan 2. So should get something done. Will post when I have something.

Looking good man!!! Keep the pics coming! :8:

Well I finally got some time to make a few pieces for my 257. I made a nose cone for now. I will eventually make a shroud for it. I finished the one piece bushing and the rest of the barrel machined except the leade. Waiting on the sizing die before I cut the leade. I also made a delrin breech. The breech is done except the threaded hole for the knob. Not picture is a blank out hammer I will make next. I have some oil filled nylon and some stainless to make it. I will be making a side cock hammer. I think this would be the best way to do it. More stable to cock the heavier spring then with the breech. So that is what I got so far. It will be cold here and a snow storm is coming. 7 degrees high Monday. My shop don’t have much heat so it will be slow going.

Thanks to Doug (dyotat100) for helping me on this. He has been a big help on what I need to do.

Could you possibly send me the specs on the breech end of the barrel? Im looking to start my .257 build soon. Thanks!
