Q:

My .30 cal Shortie.

Wanted to try a .30 shortie, knowing with a short barrel the speed was going to be slower and louder. With a TJ .30 barrel cut to 12″ with a mod HW LDC AOL is 25″

So the speed at 140b is 700fps with 44g.
That’s 48fpe.

28 shots from a 250b fill.

The sound level about the same as the .25 cricket. Now test how she shoots. I tested this barrel before on the 9mm cricket that was grouping 1/2″” @50y. The key is how to hold this .30 shortie!

Here is my .30 probe that is make out Delrin–vary smooth and quiet to slide in and out.

One can expect roughly 50 fps increase per inch of barrel. A 16″ barrel would bring your fps up to about 900 fps…or 90 fpe.

That’s worth the extra 4″ of length! It makes me wonder if the Vulcan could be converted to .30 caliber???

What would it cost to give this a try? Would the Vulcan valve be up to the job?

Hoot, I wanted to keep it short as possible to fit in my tennis racket case not 90fpe. its supper accurate at 130Y + can see the pellet vary clearly in flight, at 90fpe I can’t with my converted 9mm to .30 cricket.

I have 2 LW .30 barrel that I will make into a kit with my custom shroud/LDC for the shorty soon

If the VS don’t hold up I’ll make one that does

with all my testing an average of 20 to 25fps gain per inch on the shorty

That shortie hits what ever you point it at. It’s surprisingly quiet too that side pellet holder mod owns!!!!!! The gun eats lead and likes to spit it out. Ernest has taken great pride in trying to cut my pet crow in two. Maybe he should go back to splitting rocks and leave the crow alone. The .30 is a lethal bitch slapping device!

At the range with Oakey last Saturday,

Here some groups of the .30

@50y had tighter groups but no photo

@25y

Man love this shortie in .30

Your crow Not Even safe out to 150Y and think that’s the max range where that 12″ X 12″ tin box up on the hill, just put it next to it before the range opens. will see who shoots that crow down the hill!

Wow Ernest, that’s going to knock the tree rats into the next zip code.

Got the shot tray made and a pellet holder on the side. Man that made the Shortie a lot funner to shoot, rugged hole at 25y and hitting tennis balls at 78y.

baddabing a boozuka.

Fits ok, didn’t try the 50g yet. But I need to make a single shot tray, loading side ways take longer using to hands. I’m surprised it wasn’t that loud. I think it’s fun BP under 50y, plinking with a .30 is fun.

Even though I made the pin longer on the probe it was still flush in the breech. You see the shape of the pin—more air flow and big end to push the pellet.

MAN, Ernest that is a beast !!

How is the 30 cal pellet fitting in the breech at .45″ long, must just fit in with no room to spare with the probe in the way ?
