My Buddies Talon SS Needs Help ;- (
He has a stock 22 caliber Talon SS and IMHO his velocity stinks !
He is getting around 800 fps with JSB 18.1 gr pellets at about 6/1 on his PW.
I’m going to set his Top Hat tomorrow and put an “O” ring in her too. I will then up her PW to 7/1 to see what she does. I do think that this gun and those pellets should be going out in the very high 800’s to low 900’s …… am I correct. For an Airforce gun an 18.1 gr pellet is not a big deal.
What gap should I give the top hat ….. .090 to .095 ?
With an “O” ring installed, what PW setting do most of you guys use on a Talon SS. That 12″ barrel puts a damper on speed for sure !

If you want 950 you need to port and polish the valve or get a condor valve and weight.
Thank you, I will work on his tomorrow, just bought a used 22 cal Talon SS, I think ;- ) So I’ll use my experience working on his gun to work on mine.
This is an older gun with the red safety … and that is fine with me as I can un-cock it without the knocking out the pin routine. This is not like my Condor in that this is a walk around gun, ( actually a Starling gun) 4x AO UTG scope, no AR grip or anything like that. She will have a sling, but that’s it, probably a Walmart sling ! depending on velocity
We will see how she does with the pellets that are in her power zone. I would love 18.1 gr JSB’s to be coming out around 850, but we will see how she tunes.

Well that Talon deal fell through !, so I bought a Condor SS in .22 ;- ) It is on its way now !
Why a Condor and not a Talon ?, well because I wanted to shoot heavier pellets at a higher velocity. Being my shots are usually 40-60 yds and in windy conditions pellet weight along with speed are important.
My buddies gun is very nice and I’m testing it this weekend with his favorite 22 cal pellet the “Predator” ! he has access to a good supply of them and at the ranges he hunts 30-60 yds they work great and are very destructive on rabbit size game. He very, very much likes that pellet as many folks do for hunting. For me, I’m a different bread of cat ;- ) Downrange ballistics are what I look at, I want the flattest shooting pellet for velocity as I can get and get good pellet count too. Everything is a balance, I must weigh terminal ballistics with hunting performance and the size of game I am going after.
For me this gun shooting Kodiaks at ~875fps is what I’m after. I could use JSB 18.1 Exact Jumbos Heavies, I will have to see what the gun likes and how they shoot. Kodiaks at 875fps and JSB Exact Jumbo Heavies at 950fps have pretty much the same flight path. The JSB ever so much flatter with the Kodiaks having energy edge by a hair.
In a short time I will test and get back what works for me ;- )

With some tweaking of the top hat, fill pressure and pw you probably will get around 850 with those pellets.

Man alive, I have learned a lot since this post. My buddy is shooting about 815fps with Predators in 22 caliber, they are accurate and have enough zip for small game in the 30-40yard zone for him.
His 25 Cal Condor is a different matter, he has made some pretty long shots he said. I was going to chrono it for him this weekend, but he left the gun at home ;- (
He wants me to use Kings, so I will … I plan on pushing them in the 975-1000 fps range. He would be better off to use King Heavies ….. I need to have a serious discussion about ballistics with him next week.
He is close to picking up a Airforce Texan I think in .45 ….. for me that is to much gun but he plans some serious hunting with it. For me, I would go for 30 or maybe 357, but I would need to rob a bank first ;- )
