My condor almost gave me a scope eye
Hi all,
I did something stupid but I did it after reading about something someone had done or still does on this forum. I wanted to know how fast my .177 condor would throw out a 21 grain pellet but having no 21 grainers in .177 I loaded two 10.5 grainers into the breech and pulled the trigger. I wasnt ready for what followed next. It was a violent tank dump and the recoil was almost that of my 30-06 for which I was not ready nor was I holding the gun with that in my mind . Result : My leapers 6-24×50 hit my eye socket , well no blood or cut from the trauma , but I had to keep an icepack over the eye for a good 10 minutes. Lesson learnt : Not everything out there in the blogs is worth trying. Two 10.5 grains in the breech aint equal to one 21 grainer in the breech(if at all there is a 21 grainer in .177)

I’ve shot 15.8gn Big Boy Senior 177 through my humble SS. Pretty impressive performance… I’d imagine a Condor would be right at home with them.

No two guns are the same , we all know that and this happens to be particularly two for airforce rifles . My gun is stock , and works fine unless I mess up with it , gosh I could have killed my gun with a multiple loading.
An afterthought : Could this be the reason there is no offering of a 21 grain pellet in .177 , I know the valve spring is harder in .177.

This is the best kind of learning…when we learn from the mistakes of others.
My tank dump marked up a new digital tri- focal lens and scraped my brow with the farme. That was shooting a loose fitting .177 pellet using CO2. It was spectacular 😯 The pellet must have collapsed it’s I’ll fitting skirt and stayed in the breech causing a stream of CO2 mist to jettison out of the barrel. I kept it aimed down range and was able to shut it down by unscrewing the tank after the pressure reduced some. If the pellet would hav somehow formed a seal, my jet spray could have become lethal if I hadn’t kept it pointed down range.
Would be a good idea to post your intended experiments here, where the group’s experiences would be of use. I know hind site is 20-20.
I did the same thing, for a different reason, and broke the spring of my springer. I was told to do this by a Famous Airgun Guru, if a loose pellet is chambered, put another pellet behind it and shoot them both out.
Not quite the same results as you, but not good just the same. Take care of your eye and good luck.

I am the guy doing multiple loadings to achieve weight.
It works.
There is something else going on for a tank dump to be that violent from a .177 bore. Compared to a tank dump at .32 or .45 yours was peanuts 🙂
Not everyone out there should try stuff they have no understanding or comprehension of you know!
