My first PCP
First time posting here. Looking for a recommendation.
My real-world airgun experience is limited to an old daisy pump that I put every weekends allowance into ammo as a kid.
I have kids of my own now and have recently been re-bitten by the airgun bug. At least I have money now if not the time I once had.
I hunt and have ample access to wildlife and the outdoors in Wisconsin.
I am blown away by the recent announcement of the airforce texan. The idea that I could hunt deer humanely with an air rifle is very compelling to me.
I’ve done my homework and feel one of the airforce models is right for me.
My current thought is this:
Either I jump in head first and go straight into an SCBA tank with a shoebox compressor and go for the Texan – OR I tip-toe in with a pump and a lower caliber first – knowing I may be wasting some dollars in the long run (everyone says the pumping gets old fast).
Ideally I would have 2 guns right – a .25 caliber and the texan, but I dont think I can afford both especially if I am out nearly 2 grand for a tank and compressor.
How practical or realistic is it to expect the texan to be re-barreled for smaller calibers like .25? Wishful thinking?
Appreciate and respect the wisdom here.

Definitely get an ScBA setup regardless. As for the caliber- unless your going after deer sized game, get the .25.
.25 is the universal awesome airgun caliber for hogs on down. So, ONLY if you’re planning on deer hunting, get something bigger.
Good news is airgun fill equipment and most brands of guns themselves have a high resale value. If you bought a used tank/shoebox, you could recoup all your money minus the shipping. Find a decent deal on a gun, you won’t lose out on anything. I’ve gained a few bucks buying a common brand used rifle I ended up selling a year later.
I’m betting if you wanted someone to machine you the parts to be able to use a single gun to switch between calibers would cost you more than just buying a used .25 Marauder($300). Two guns would be your best bet if you go with a used .25 like the Marauder- which is an excellent gun despite its price.
