Q:

My Frankintalon camera gun

About a year ago, I was intrigued with Ted in Madison’s slomo pest elimination. I also saw where you could few the pellets’ trajectory and watch its’ behavior. So I set out as many of us have, to achieve similar videos. With mount and camera in hand, I tried to use a variety of PCP guns as a platform. Two problems that I kept running into; subtle enough recoil that caused the video to shake and inadequate eye relief that caused me to not be able to have a decent cheek weld. I have tried several different mounting positions of the rings and camera but I was never able to achieve good eye relief using the camera.

So I set out looking for a mount that would move the scope forward enough so I could shoulder the gun and achieve a good sight picture.

So after some trial and a lot of error, I settled on my Air Force .22 Talon with an 18” barrel. With some fine tuning I was able to achieve about 30fpe with virtually little or no recoil and I was able to mount the scope and camera in such a way that I was able to get some eye relief on the camera but it never was quite what I wanted. The scope was mounted waaaay out on the tri-rail and I was always in fear of bumping it and dislocating zero.

I looked at everything that UTG /Leapers had in a way to mount the scope on a dovetail and get it out where I needed it to be.
So with some quiet time in the shop, I sat down and laid out what I felt the correct height and distance forward.

I decided to use the accessory rail on the top of the frame to install the Airforce Tri-Rail. This would allow me to fine-tune the distance of the camera for eye relief.

Next I needed to get the scope above the scope rail above the breech. The scope mount as it is mounted to the tri rail by itself did not give me room to mount the camera bracket so I used a riser to get the height that I needed.
Come to find out, the scope is now lower than it was originally by a half inch. Now the CG of the rig is lower, I have good eye relief on the camera and a much more solid mount.
