Roachcreek, I’m in Indianapolis, the place I shoot is where I grew up. My family has owned it a long time, Its south east of Indianapolis. We have 110 acres so we could shoot further if we want, but we have such a nice setup in that spot. We sit inside the edge of the garage out of the wind and shoot out into the field, the ground runs uphill in that direction so our pellets hit the dirt and dont go any furthur. There are alot of trees so as we shoot we watch for starlings and pigeons.

I was out there today and it was very windy, about 20mph + gusts. This is the second time I’ve been out there in heavy wind and I have been amazed at how well the .177 has been doing. You always here people talking about heavy pellets bucking the wind, but these things seem to fly really well. Its like since there is less weight/mass the wind has less to push around and they arc less. Same goes for distance, they drop very little in my experiance. Ive been shooting 10.4 grain mostly and it does great, today I put in a few premier lights 7.4 grain (I think) and had to move my aim point down quite a bit at 100 yrds. I kept having to move my hold off left and right cause the wind was whipping back and forth way out there, but I was amazed how much I was hitting my target way out there.

I have watched your videos Roachcreek as well as others of long range shots with airguns, and since we have the room I have been thinking about seeing how far I can shoot the .177 with conventional pellets. I was looking at different places to set up some targets and it looks like about 400 yrds back to the closest corner of the field. This summer I think I will move a target further and further out and see how far I can get. I will have to wait for a really calm day to do it. When I do it I will get someone to video me so I can post up some pics.

TRX,

Those 177’s are a wise choice for birds where you at.

Cronos,

If you stop buying air guns ad air gun parts you should be able to buy a small island in the next 6 months. 😆

Nice collection and place to shoot. Im looking foward to the day I have the land to shoot on.Enjoy it.
