My Harbor Freight compressor quit working
I bought that little compressor in October or November.
I did not get the extended warrantee on it, it seems I should have.
It runs, but does not pump up, sounds like it has no load on the motor, I don’t hear air escaping, there is air flow coming from around the motor area, but I assume it does that when working properly also.
I have a HArbor Freight add for another one for $49.99 and then a coupon for 20% off that price.
I am thinking on getting one a little bigger, the one in question said it was a 100 PSI model, but I never got more than 90 PSI out of it, a 125PSI that I could turn down to 95 PSI or so seems to me to be a better option. I don’t know that I want to go for a bigger than 3 gallon tank but if I want it to run longer between starts perhaps I need to.

Oh I am sure there are better ones out there but a lot of folks these days just rather get up and running instead of wait months more to save up and pay 7x as much.
Pay $40 for a compressor with $15 2 year replacement and they can get as many replaced as needed and enjoy their Shoebox and airgun.
Or they can wait and maybe save for several months and pay $280 for a Makita.
Some people just would rather just get started and spend a few bucks

Now, I am not to sure of oilless compressors, however
The 2 gallon emglo I use for work has been given me air 8 hours a day for 8+ years now, I am talking heavy usage
Don’t know shit bout the oil less but if ya spent twice as much on a better compressor you would get more than twice the life out of it
Also, can you just put a filter on a oil compressor and get the same result?
At work, when a guy shows up with an oil less, ya know right away he is green, those things are loud too

I have that sears one. Works well so far. Does a good job of trapping water.
You gotta pay to play. Your computer is made in china as well as cell phones.
You can buy a better one. It will cost more, but it still will come from China 😀

Neighbor gave it to me when he moved out of state, it pumps up ok, but leaks out through the pump within a few hours.
At least I have one though, always finding a need to pump up a tire, blow off some crud on something, etc.

Those small HF compressors are great because they they are only $40, but with both the small amount of cfm output and the small tank they just run too much.
Get a compressor that has at least 1CFM or more output at 85psi. It will run a whole heck of a lot less.
They say the shoebox will take up to 100psi and fill faster, but I believe that you will find that it will cut off at a lower psi instead of reaching 4500psi.
I think the best deal is the Sears 4 gallon Craftsman that is on sale for $110. It is 125psi Max and 2.7CFM output at 90psi.

I think a 6 gallon would be better but that gets more expensive.
HF has a 6 gallon, I would have to buy the warranty with it.

If you are going to scrap it why not pull the head off and have a look. Years ago I used a smaller compressor that had a flat spring steel check valve in the center of the piston. Sometimes it would get dirt build up under it and hold it open. I would just remove it, wipe it clean, put back together and go.
I’d be interested in knowing if this size compressor uses a diaphragm that may be irreplaceable.
I have gone through 3 HF compressors. They get runned a lot in my shop.
I finally bought a larger one when it went on sale $40 off. When I first went to buy it I was a the register when I saw an ad on the wall with it on sale 2 weeks later. They would not give it to me for that price, so I came back in 2 weeks got the sale price and the saving paid for the 2 yr extended warranty and tax. 😀
This new compressor is far better then the smaller ones I bought. I know you need an oilless compressor and I have one of those as well it is now retired but worked great and is waiting in the wings for future use.

Get the extended warranty on the compressors. It is cheap and keeps you safe for a couple of years. You just bring it in and they give you another

Well, i guess my old compressor is NOT oil-less since it has a reservoir for oil at the base of the compressor!! 😆 😆
I thought “Oiled compressor” meant it used oil in the lines to lube air run equipment… 🙄 🙄
Guess some oil lubing the cylinder walls would naturally get into the lines.
Great info on the warranty, I usually pass on those, but in this case, with lots of use, it would be worth it so it seems.
