Q:

My Hill Pump Experience

I spent the first 45 minutes dorking out. I thought the wheezing and farting noises being made by the pump were normal. I reread a post on the forum where Synopsys said that he got his tank up to 2000 psi with two 5 minute sessions. I realized that I was doing something wrong. I rechecked the fill hose, and it wasn’t screwed down tight enough on either side. As soon as I started pumping again the needle started to rise. I couldn’t believe how fast the tank filled. After the first 5 minute session I was up to 1000 psi. I let the pump cool for fifteen minutues and then pumped up to 2000 psi. At 2000 psi the hose started leaking again. I torqued the connection down again. I was worried about over tightening, but I didn’t think I had much choice. I finished filling the tank in two more sessions. The last five minutes were a bitch. Toward the end my wife started making suggestive jokes about the whole pumping up the tank thing. I kind of agreed with her on the look of the whole situation, but I couldn’t laugh and operate the pump at the same time. I was actually lifting my body off the ground pushing down on the handle. After I regained my composure, I began pumping again. It takes some technique. I attached the tank to the Condor and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. Up to now I had been using CO2 and I had the power wheel set to low. I turned the wheel up to 11 and pulled the trigger again. After months of reading about how loud the Condor was I expected a louder report. After the first couple of shots the Condor became louder, but still quiter than I was expecting it to be. I was however surprised at how loud the “tank ping” sounded.

I sure will, 5 minutes on 15 minutes off. The way this thing moves the air, 5 minutes is about 1000 psi, while pausing a second at the end of each stroke. I am going to order a Quick Release, when I have multiple guns to fill, just to make it easier so I don’t have to screw on a bunch of different adapters.

But after spending that money, I don’t know what I’m gonna do about a ported valve from tony.

That will work. The last thing you want to do is have the your new pump broken by having the bottle hooked up to it rigid and on the ground.

That is a nice pump. Just be sure to take it easy so it lasts for years.

Ok, i got it set up with the hose. All it needed was a little Teflon tape.

I have the hose that it came with, but it didn’t seem to fit the airforce adapter perfectly. The threads are the same but there is a little flange thingy that is not the exact same size as the one in the airforce adapter. I didn’t want the same thing to happen with this pump that happened to my airfoce pump, and have my tank launched into orbit. I will fiddle with it and see what I can do. Thanks.

That looks great.
You might want to put a short hose on that pump to connect the fill adapter to.

The way you have it right now if you loose your balance and tip toward the tank the leverage from the tank could damage the pump due to the force. A short hose could allow some freedom in movement of the tank in relation to the pump.

Think about it.

My new hill pump came in today, and I ordered it monday at 12:00 PM! Let me tell you, this thing is in an entire different world than the POS Airforce pump. It also fills a hell of a lot faster, but is also a hell of a lot harder to pump! I weigh 140 and had some trouble getting it to 3000, but I did manage. If you are looking at getting a hand pump, do not waist your time on the cheap ones, save yourself the time and grief to get yourself a hill. Cost me $300 including shipping, but it was well worth the extra $100.

That could be an option 8) But for now I’m gonna order the pump, and there is the added plus that it keeps me in shape, well sorta. 🙄

Bikin,

Check out Pomona Aiguns for the hill pump and his compressed air tanks. The pump is not cheap and for a little more you can get a tank.

Sports Chalet will fill the tank if you and the male fill adapter.

I’m not so sure that the Airforce adapter will work for the Hill pump. I ordered a custom made Airforce adapter from Pyramyd. They turned down the 1/4 BSP thread to a 1/8 BSP thread. The other option is to buy a 1/4 to 1/8 BSP reducer.

I have an airforce pump that broke, and I recently fixed it but am still not happy. If I buy the Hill/BSA pump, will my adapter for the airforce pump work with the hill? Thanks a lot.

The Hill Pump hose swaps out for the AF adapter.

use blue locktit not the red it wont be so hard, i prefer the teflon tape it works faster not having to wait for to dry just put it about 1mm from the tip so it wont get in the way of the air flow and your done with a firm snug fit and no leaks.

Does your connection have an oring? make sure it is in good shape.

Nope. I think it is entirely metal on metal. When I bought the adapter from Pyramyd they told me that they had to countersink the adapter so that it would work with the Hill hose. how hard would it be to remove the hose if I used Loc-tite.
