My New .22 Bullpup won’t group consistantly.
So I recently got my hands on a . Vulcan Bullpup in .22 cal. I’ve read that most are doing well with 18.13 gr JSBs and to be fair I haven’t tried them yet but they’re on order. I’ve tried several other pellets and can’t seem to keep my POI consistent. Some brands will print 5″ groups (if you can call them groups) at 40 yards and others a little better but certainly not acceptable. I did manage to shoot a couple of 1/2 groups with Crosman wadcutters but then even they started shooting erratically.
It appears that my POI will shift from one shooting session to the next. I’ve tried two different scopes thinking that I may have scope issues but no change. I cleaned the barrel and still no change. Wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar and if so were you able to correct it?

Had a few minutes-after work to sit down and shoot a few more magazines with the Vulcan .22 Bullpup and now i’m convinced of a phenomenon that I’ve never seen so dramatically evident in any rifle of any kind. This incredible little machine seems to prefer a very specific fuel…and that fuel is JSB Heavies. I’m certain that I could find a few more varieties which produce similar results but for now, I am one very pleased airgunner.
When viewing the photos below please keep in mind that I was shooting from a folding bridge table that wobbled like a drunken uncle at an open bar wedding and a 25lb sack of #4 lead shot for a sandbag.

I’ve heard of finicky guns but I never would’ve guessed that the difference could be so extreme. More than satisfied with the Vulcan’s capabilities after witnessing this.
How is your barrel like? A lot of leading or smooth?
I wouldn’t let that put you off buying one, youd be waiting a long time for a perfect gun of any make/model. It’s not a common issue as far as I found out.

Another Bullpup. Originally I contacted Evgeny about the new Vulcan (with forend rail and adjustable butt pad) he said he’d make me one up. Time went by and he didn’t reply to me so being impatient I bought a 2016 model from a dealer.. Then Evgeny emails me saying “your new gun is built and ready for you, here’s the invoice” So being a man of my word I paid up!
You just need to remove the shroud:
Shouldn’t be. Less than 200 rounds through the barrel since I got the rifle. Not sure how to take a decent photo of the bore without disassembling the gun.
Post the picture of the choke of your barrel. Is there much lead accumulation?
Pellet discrimination. My Vulcan is most definitely biased against most pellets. My new JSB Heavies arrived yesterday and I had just enough shooting light left to the day when I got home to run a few magazines through her. Oh Yeah!!!… She likes these JSBs!!! Holding a dime sized group at 40 yards and that’s with me behind the trigger. I’m a decent shot but not great. Haven’t had a chance to chrono the new pellets yet but who cares? She’s putting them right where I point her. Very, very pleased! :biggrinn:

I own a .22 Vulcan tactic and not grouped with JSB 18 Grain in any speed range of 50 meters, the only ones who like pellet are the JSB 15.89 grain 5.51, with those groups can tightly closed at 50 meters speed 910 fps.

975 fps is pretty hot. Back your HST out a bit and get your velocity to 890 – 900. I think that will make a difference.
Thanks everybody for all of the great feedback. I’ve got those JSB’s on the way so I’ll give ’em a shot (pun intended) and go from there. Guykuo, you may be on to something with your concern about velocity. I’m averaging 975 fps with 16gr pellets. Maybe they’re not stable at this velocity???
The JSB’s that I ordered are 18.13 gr so that should bring the fps down some.

Man, shoot 12 groups, 5 shots in each. We will see if there is any accuracy degradation. Please also find more steady position. Talking about wobbly position and accuracy testing is not logical to me. Do it right or not at all.
