My new .25cal
A friend at my FT club decided his Beeman Kodiak is too heavy at 9.90lbs with all you see. Well I took it off his hands and man this thing is a shooter. It shits all over my Walter Falcon hunter in .25 but the Walter is still a good buy. Also this Kodiak has a gas ram and it was done up by Dave Slade. This is my first Gasram and man I’m really shocked at how it shoots. The scope is a BSA 4X32 and that has got too go so, will be looking into some glass for this one and it came with a really nice sling. It’s shooting from 28fpe to 29fpe (829.5fps max) and it seems to like FTS and Webley Mosquito’s and He gave me 8 tins of the Webley’s. At 29fpe this gun is very smooth for the power is puts out and it has less recoil than some of my other springers. Cocking the gun is not too fun but it’s not a plinker and after 20 rounds I was pooped and the muzzle break helps out nice when cocking this big dog. It was shooting a little under 1″ at 25 yards today but it’s very windy in my area today and it was more me due to the wind blowing in my face.
I’m not sure what scope to get but I’m thinking something new that I don’t have. Maybe a Hawke airmax?
What can you guys tell me about GasRams? Do they kill scopes?

My only problem was finding a mount that wouldn’t slide. In the end after trying several I found a BKL and that’s held up VERY well.
Excellent gun’s – Even if mine wasn’t a gift therefore precluding me from selling it, I wouldn’t sell it.
YN David S. does great work. I just mounted a Hawk airmax 4-12 on mine and it’s doing very good and it’s not to big. I mounted it on the same B-square mount that came with the gun and it’s holding up just fine. The Focus is a little too tight but it shoots good and looks clear around 20 to 30 yards so for hunting it can stay at that setting. I have 50+ rounds on the scope and it’s still dead on.
After sight in this very big fly landed on my target and the zero was set at 25 yards so I did what most peeps would do…hehehe.

I was able to do some test shots under much better conditions and after shooting 10 or so shots I was not Happy. I was shooting the Webley Mosquito’s and man, I was getting big fliers at 25 yards so I started to weigh some of them and WTF they range from 18.8gr to 19.8gr. After sorting out 2 tins that put me with 4 wieght classes of pellets, I shot some groups with the 19.4gr one’s (the most in the lot) and it’s shooting much, much better and now I have 6 more tins to sort out 😳 . I’m happy NOW!!!! Can’t wait for the new scope to come in 😆

No need to apologize…. since I dont own a Dampa mount, I was merely talking out of my arse and echoing what I’ve heard. Your experience may be different.
There are a lot of factors to consider when scoping a super magnum… one needs strong mounts, a strong scope, and a properly functioning gun….and the scope and mounts must be installed correctly. If any part of this equation is left out… scope damage, slippage, and POI shifts will occur.

I’ve heard the same… that the rubber cracks and deteriorates over time….
I use BKL 260’s on both my Kodiak in .25 and Patriot in .22 and I’ve never had an ounce of slip.
both guns have cross sections for a special mount, but I’ve not heard good things about those Patriot mounts from B-Square, either.
I hear it too often that Dampa mount is a joke, that rubber bushings wear out and even the whole mounts come loose. I wish they permanently install Beeman or BKL 1 piece on to receivers via bolts, centerfire-like; undestructable. Just a thought.
Gas rams recoil should not be more fierce than a springer for the same energy,but the felt recoil will be different.If you want to protect your scope get a Theoben “Dampa” mount which incorporates some bushes to absorb most of the recoil energy.
I have a SLR 98 running at 12 fpe in .177 cal,it has standard Theoben 1″ rings,and the scope shows no sign of wear ofr damage,the .177 recoil is harder than larger calibres.

To be honest, I find them easier to shoot accurately than most smaller ‘magnum’ springers such as a Meteor or Lightning. The extra weight of the Kodiak makes a bit more stable shooting platform.
I remember that Rob. You had to sort that out and it came out great. I was thinking…”man I know Rob or someone has a David S. Kodiak that came out sweet so this one could be OK” LOL THANKS FOR KEEPING US TUNE IN Rob. I remember that!!!!!!!!!. I just wish that more guns can go GasRam like my R9. I just may try and do my my son’s Gamo Shadow Sport with a GS Air Venture setup just for shits an giggles.
No sir… to my knowledge, all Kodiaks/Patriots are by default spring guns. My Patriot was bought used with a ram installed and my Kodiak was bought used with some issues… and when I sent it off to David Slade to fix, I asked him to go ahead and install a gas ram in it.

Rob did the Kodiaks all come with gasram? I don’t know a hole lot about them but when I shot this one, I had to have it.

My Kodiak .25 also loves the Mosquitos and FTS’s. Will group fine with Kodiaks, but the trajectory is a bit loopy for me.
My rammed Kodiak is putting out right at 29fpe, at factory specs… recoil is definitely sharp. I have a Legend 5x15x40 on it and it’s held up well so far.
I find that this gun prefers a bit tighter hold than most springers and when I do so, it will group very well for me….

Damn, now I’m gonna have to get a BeeMan RX-2, or Theoben Crow Magnum or something. I’ve been eyeing up those two for a while, interesting to hear about those Dampa Mounts 😕
