Q:

My new FX Whisper. Lots of pics.

Purchased a used FX whisper in .22 a few days ago. It is a fantastic rifle, and is a very nice addition to my collection. Accuracy tests so far show pretty much one hole groups at 25 yards. It gets around 28 fpe for about 35 shots, from a 180cc air tank!! It takes less than two minutes to pump from 2000 to 3000 psi.

Magazine is not installed in the pictures, for “safety” reasons. 😆

I did not like the feel of the small bolt handle, so I machined up a prototype, which works a lot better than the stock one.

I am very impressed by this rifle so far. A cyclone or Air Arms s410 are in my future, so I can compare them to the whisper, and keep whichever I like best. Stay tuned as I find more things to mod on the Whisper!

Later.

What could cause the FX cyclone to shoot eractically. Could it be the o ring in the breech?

Bikincrazy, that is one sharp rifle. Glenn’s Whisper came today and we ran it through its paces. We came to the same conclusion about the cheek pad- a little higher would be nice. His is .177 doing a round 20 fpi. They are a lot lighter than I would have guessed from looking at the pictures. Glenn was getting very good groups at 30 yards. Here’s a pic- have to say it is about average. Should make a great hunting rifle. Have fun and don’t forget to post your kills 😀 😀

That would definitely be a bummer. I have some Crosman premier HP on order, along with some other crap from pyramid. I will see how well they shoot from the FX. I know they were almost as accurate as JSB’s in my SS.

Mine are regular round nose pellets. Damn, I hope they didn’t stop making them!

I believe thats the only ones offerred in 22

Jerry, I was using JSB’s, and you are right about getting annoyed with bent skirts, is sucks loading one in the mag, then realizing it is all bent up. Do you mean the benjamin sheridan hollow point pellets? http://pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/pellet.pl?pellet_id=586

Bikin,
You didn’t mention which pellets you were using (unless I missed it). Most of the guys shooting the FX rifles swear by the JSB’s. I have a Monsoon and I’ve shot a bunch of JSB’s but I got annoyed at half the tin being all bent up. I tried several different pellets and found that the cheapest ones out there shot a little BETTER than the JSB’s! The Benjamin Sheridan .22s are a little harder but they are very uniform and you can use every one out of a tin. They will shoot to a POI that is a touch right of the JSB’s but once the scope is adjusted…well, I’ll never go back! Oh, with a better rest (and no muscle tremors from pumping) you can expect 1/2″ groups for a magazine at 40+ yards. I’ve made some neat sculpture by shooting a .62 slug into a 4×4 and then shooting 12 shots from the Monsoon into the hole!

I think you should test it and check things more before drawing any conclusions, if it keeps shooting bad right off next time check the barrel.

The bad group at the beginning is me, not the gun. I also think that some sort of pad on the stock would help a lot to get a more solid cheek weld, and maybe better groups. My head is just kinda floating around at the moment. It also takes a little while(at least for me) with a gun to get the best groups out of it. This thing is not designed for, or going to be used as a FT or match gun. It will be used for rats and other small creatures within 50 yards. If a crow needs exterminating, I will go to my tried and true 24″ SS, which never fails to amaze me. My groups at 25 yards with a far from perfect rest, show me that it will do its job well.

I never “drew any conclusions”, I just said that so far I think it is an amazing rifle.

Derek,

That is a great buy! Very wise choice.

If you would like that knob black send it to me and I will PC it for you 😉

Very nice Bikin… Cant wait to see accuracy reports.

😆 😯 I am the wrong guy for that 😛 I always start off by saying “I won’t screw around on this one”, and guess what happens, I forget I am testing accuracy. 🙄

All shots were at 25 yards, the maximum range I can get in my yard. I was set up kneeling with the gun rested on a few shirts on a chair. The upper left target was the first magazine from a 200 bar fill, I was still shaking from pumping 😀 The upper right was the second 12 shot mag I shot on that fill, and it was pretty good. It measured 3/16″ ctc. It then went to hell from there.

I then ruined my target with the “random shoot at the target game” 😆

I am still impressed with the rifle.

Great looking rig. Love the nice big bolt you got 😀

Sweet gun dude, FX makes some really nice guns to be sure… congrats.

Very nice Bikin… Cant wait to see accuracy reports.

Thanks a lot for the comments guys.

Nice! How is the noise compared to your SS?

I would have to say that it is about the same noise level as the best shroud I have made, using my standard flow tank with my 24″ barrel. It is noticeably quieter than a stock SS, but it is not silent. I could make up an add on shroud, that screws into the muzzle, but there really is no point, unless you need absolute silence.
