my new haley 257 (pics added)

So my new haley 257 came in yesterday. All i can say is awsome. It is making 242fpe off a 2700psi fill with 5the shots from 200-242 fpe thats with 87the grn bullets from my rcbs mold. Also its very accurate. My 50yd groups are .252in .i got pics of this but i got to figure out how to get them on here from my phone. All and all im very happy with it. More to come.

my two that I have had some interest in building are like you, the 7mm and also .40
the .40 has an enormous variety of projectiles going back to the various Maynard slugs of the 1860s and has a deserved reputation for extreme accuracy in the subsonic range
I own an original 1865 Sporting model percussion Maynard breechloader in .40-40 that if I do my part I can shoot ragged more or less 1 hole groups at a hundred yards with the original rear tang and globe front sights but figure it will take a custom Maynard barrel to do that in an AG
have a couple vintage Maynard .40 barrels that have mint bores but no bluing, may canablize one for a big bore build in the future

i understand ya RS. And agree.

On another note:
Honestly though, the 257 and 308’s are really my preferred direction for airguns (love 45’s too….BUT?). Its a personal thing. I like the thought of higher velocities and higher BC’s. I will say this TODAy just in case it becomes popular down the line, i would love a 264 cal airgun that could shoot pretty fast with cast bullets having BC’s in the .500 range (ohh la la). It’s got seriously high BC bullets. I love the thought of the 257 and 264 and 308 and possibly a 7mm or .284 cal. The 7mm is another high BC cal.

But enough of my blabbering 😆

I truly agree Tof
tried to make that point some months ago however seemed to go no where with the anti JH trolls
internally some of his early rifles did leave a bit to be desired…same can be said for many early run production guns
my 1st run .22 Marauder was a serious lemon, the .25s I own now are far better products

never said I didn’t believe, just that I was surprised at the lack of negativity in this thread
I have always supported Jack’s guns, given the price point…even those that needed a bit of fine tuning 😉

RS,

For me personally, i can admit when something SEEMS to be good and when something IS OBVIOUSLY bad. My older haley was crap as far as BUILD quality. My second one was MUCH better but still had some quality issues. I could obviously tell, Jack was reading the post and acquiring BETTER equipment. Now look at his guns today. Same look on the outside as the 1st guns but over the years, JACK HAS LEARNED SOME AIRGUNSMITHING. To me and my buddy who owned an earlier Haley, it’s obvious

To deny proven evidence is being a fool.

I also believe that most big bores on the market still have some IMPROVING to do (no matter how much HYPE a new buyer puts into his gun). I know cause i buy them or at least have friends that buy the ones that i am no longer am interested in.

So yeah, i believe my bud RJ whole heartedly. A good shooter is a good shooter period. But i can say with conviction that Jacks guns have EVOLVED over time and APPEAR to be much better today than yesteryear.

Yep thats his grandson

any one ever put a shroud on one of these guns .

Nice rifle for sure…and I’m glad for Jack, truly…but I’d have to see it to believe it…sub moa @ 300 yards, that is.

Hey, isn’t that Jack Haley’s grandson in the third place position?

a stipulation in the rules allowed a guy with this rifle to win a LASSO bigbore shoot.

max caliber is 25, this is .257. lotta difference .007 makes…

That thing is sweet! Does it have the muzzle brake like the one in the photo on Jack’s website?
