My Newly Built Backyard Shooting Range
I got this idea from a fellow who posted a similar range on the yellow. I liked the idea so much that I put the plan in the works and after 60 days, the end result is shown here.
A friend poured a 6″ by 15’x25′ concrete pad. The actual covering is 10’x20′. The posts are 4×4 and we added 2 extra posts for more structural integrity. All the wood is PT including the 3/4″ roof finished with tar paper and shingles. There are metal straps at all the joints reinforcing all the 2×4’s, 2×6’s (rafters) and 4×4’s. Being in Florida we have to build things to withstand the winds we sometimes get even though we’re out of the hurricane belt. It’s over-built.
To finish it off we added privacy lattice. We also added a shelf to the back wall for tanks, guns, pellets, bullets, rocket launchers, grenades and whatever else we can think of. Oh yeah, beer!
We built 3 dual sided benches which have 6×6 PT legs. They’re very heavy benches and very stable too. This range is great and we tried it out this past weekend. It’s a blast!
This extends our capability to shoot out to a about 125 yards. Targets are set at 50, 75 and 100 yards. We haven’t tried the 125 yards yet. It’s amazing how accurate these toys, errrr adult air rifles shoot.
