My results with venting my Condor frame
I have a 24″ Condor in .22 using a .177 tank. I had a 13″ shroud and a vented front bushing made by a forum member (yel01z06). While it all did a fine job, I felt it could be a little quieter, especially since I am surrounded by homes.
There was room in the front bushing for me to drill 2 more holes and while I was at it I slightly flared both sides of the holes in the bushing with a larger bit.
I read all I could find about venting the frame on the forum and came to the conclusion that it was worth a shot. I drilled 3 small holes (using a bit just under 1/8″ using a nice vintage Miller’s Falls hand drill), under the grip area, in the channel of the frame. I kept it to three holes as I wanted to keep all the holes in frame under the grip AND over that large internal gap in the grip. I did not want to overdo it. I also lightly stuffed some stiff foam into the gap of the the grip, to calm the air down and to reduce any chance of me feeling the air on my hands or face. Before I put it all back together, I laid some tissue over the frame vent holes and dry fired the Condor upside down, the tissue puffed up nicely from the air leaving the frame, as was expected. To top it off, I put in a strip of stiff foam that I had left over into frame around the barrel, on both sides of the front bushing. Just a little, about half the volume of the space in the frame. Comments?
Put it all back together and I honestly have to say that it is quieter. Not massively quieter, but clearly quieter.
I want next to experiment with wrapping the shroud baffle chambers with a mix of wire mesh and some sort of stable fabric/foam. Comments?
