My Talon SS is different…
…than those I see pictured here.
I am new here so I have been reading and looking at the pictures posted in earlier postings about the Talon SS air rifle because I didn’t want to ask a question that has been posted before. Anyway, I recently purchased a used Talon SS, my first AF airgun, that has a serial number of B00028. I assume this is probably one of the first Talon SS rifles off the production line? One of the most obvious differences is the end cap on the shroud. It is two piece, a threaded bushing held in place by a set screw that the end cap screws into. Secondly the barrel bushings are made of plastic, pressed on, with a single hole for the set screw. Right now all I have available is CO2 and the rifle is so quiet it amazes me. It is so quiet that at first I thought it lacked power but soon found out that it hit fairly hard even with the CO2 I am using. I am getting a scba tank that I bought this coming Tuesday so I hope to be using HPA by next weekend. I plan to break out the chronograph to see what kind of velocity it puts out after I get set up for HPA.
Now my question – Are there any collectors of AF products? Would this Talon SS have some kind of collector value that I would ruin by modifying it? Should I sell it to someone who would appreciate it and just buy a different one?
This forum has provided the answers to all of my other questions about the Talon SS so far. It was very fortunate for me to find Talonairgun so I can learn more about my rifle. I am amazed by the ingenuity and resourcefulness of those here who own and modify their AF airguns. I am buying a 24″ barrel from one of the members here so that I can get a little more umph out of the CO2.
The CO2 tanks are very easy and convenient for me to get filled from a nearby gun store which is about 100 feet from my front door, slightly closer than the nearest neighbor. Not only that, neither he or his wife ever charge me to fill my tanks. I have got the owner interested in airguns and he told me he is looking for a big bore to purchase. The guy is into class III firearms and has several legal suppressors. I will invite him over to shoot my Talon and he will be hooked! Hopefully I can get him interested enough to buy a HPA compressor and start filling tanks!

Hi Whistler, welcome to the fold, brother! 😀 The TSS is a great airgun. While I have several really nice air rifles, I don’t see ever parting with my TSS. Actually, I see myself buying several more TSS’ for my kids. My 17 year old daughter would like one in black. OK, maybe for Christmas. You need smaller targets, or greater distance…maybe both. You are going to love that CF tank. HPA is louder, but you will be spitting those pellets out at 750-850fps! That’s pretty good for a 12″ pellet gun. 😀
I was fortunate to know a gun dealer when I was younger. He taught me to leave old collectable guns in their original condition. When we are young, we just don’t know any better. Oh well. Live and learn. 😉

Well, they say confession is good for the soul. Seriously, I was a young man who bought a rusty Army pistol from an old man needing money. I paid $50 for a pistol that was covered in surface rust so it probably wasn’t too valuable to begin with. I remember well how the fellow didn’t want to take it in the gun store because of the United States Property stamped on the frame.
Every day I shoot my Talon SS and I can’t get over how I can consistently hit targets out to 40 yards. In fact, it has got to the point that the 1-1/2″ swingers are no challenge. So now I try to shoot off every little shred of the stickers on the round disks. Sometimes it gets to the point they are as small as the pellet diameter. I would never have thought this possible with a 12 inch barrel. And quiet! I have a liberal neighbor who frowns on my pellet shooting. His teenage kids stand at the fence and watch me intently. One day I asked them if they wanted to come over and shoot but they say their dad won’t let them touch a gun of any kind, even a toy. Maybe I am getting soft in my old age but I really feel sorry for them.
My 66 cubic foot SCBA tank came in by UPS a minute ago. Haven’t unpacked it yet but still need a fill adapter. Have to wait for that though. I am eager to see how much louder the Talon is using HPA. I don’t see how it can be any more accurate though.

You used a surface grinder on a Singer .45? I’m not sure I would admit to that.
Thanks a bunch. That’s good to know. Due to my ignorance, I ruined the value a 1911A1 made by Singer sewing machine about 30 years ago when I used a surface grinder on the slide. I always think back on that when I go into uncharted territory. It’s easier to ask first and mod later I guess.
There is ZERO collectors value.

The gun in my signature pic is of the same era as yours.
Obviously it has been modified.
I could probably sell it for more than its worth so to me there is no harm in modifying your rifle as you see fit.
