Q:

My Tophat is stuck

The new Condor SS arrived last week but the AirForce DIN Scuba Tank Adapter is on back order until late January. It had 2,700 lb air pressure still in the tank from testing so I got off a few introductory shots. #$%&* this thing is loud. Every pellet weight I had went hypersonic. One went through the chronometer back wall above the sensor. Sucker went right through! Left a big hole. Did I mention that this air gun is powerful?

Anyway, after the pressure dropped below an operational level, I spent some time reading this forum and looking over the Condor. The Tophat was loose. That sent me on a search for a .050 Allen wrench. That took a couple days. They are uncommon where I live, in the ‘woods’. After finding an Allen wrench, I completely removed the set screws. My intent was to examine the valve tube to check for damage. But the Tophat would screw out but not off. Before coming off it jams enough to rotate the tube.

If I want to examine the tube for damage, option to install an ‘O’ ring, or install an adjustable Tophat, I’ll need to completely remove the existing Tophat.

How do I get the Tophat off without damaging the tube??

Just try to use o ring today with no any mod for other, the effect that i can see is more shoot with same drop pressure compare to before using o ring behind top hat. There are almost 2 times more shoot.

Yep, Your not the first one to try it! 😳

Our new resident know it all posted recently that it is the correct way to do it. 🙄

and he wonders why we are on his ass. 😆

while on the subject. I saw a post by J. In Texas talking about a fibre shim under the Top hat stopping hammer bounce. (May not have been J. I not, My bad!). A rubber “O” ring will help with hammer bounce.
A fibre shim will help use less air because it prevents the top hat stem from going into the valve quite so far. Basically giving a smaller top hat to bottle gap. I use both on my set-up. But they serve different functions.

Knife

my friend has the hoddie and i have the us flag with infidel in the bottom right corner decal on my truck

I like your T-Shirt in the ‘How to install TTTA onto a Non-SpinLock Airforce Airgun” video.

I had the ‘Infidel’ handle on another forum. It got me in trouble. Some people just don’t have a sense of humor.

probably I have a condor with 18″ .22 barrel with TT adjustable tophat with the smallest insert and an oring and its shooting 950-980 but i also have a heavy TT Hammer also

Read, read, read, then reread, and then reread some more. LOL There is so much info to sift through. I got a TT 3 piece i just put it back together and it seems pretty good without the o-ring. but an o-ring or thin fiber washer behind the top hat may help too.

Have fun

I understand ‘way too hot’. I had only enough air to shoot for a little while. Turning the power wheel down to 0.0 didn’t stop it from shooting everything I had hypersonic.

I’ve ordered Talon Tunes ‘Quick Change Top Hat’.

Will I still need the ‘O’ ring?

Tuko

remember im shooting a tuned condor that is why my oring is so thick or my gun shoots way to hot

Thanks Dyotat100, PANDEMIC and everyone.

Now, who did that the first time. I would never have tried something like that. Kind of like the first guy to eat an oyster. Who would have thunk??

Is there risk of damaging the stem or gun if the stem is removed more than a few times?

The ‘O’ ring in the video looks thicker than I was lead to believe. Somewhere I read that it should be .014″ thick? So how thick should it be?

I have an ‘O’ ring 1/16″ thick. Will that do the trick? Do we tune for different power with different ‘O’ ring thicknesses?

I’d like to be able to shoot commonly available ~15gn pellets at about 850fps most of the time.

Then, when I hunt, turn it up to max. I’m also thinking of buying a larger, longer barrel for hunting.

It looks like I’m a candidate for the upgrade Tophat with inserts.

Lots to learn! I’m gonna enjoy this.

Thanks again guys.

Top hat comes off from the other end. You need to fill your tank and pry out the stem with 2 screw drivers. One Screw driver from each side works good. Then you can remove the top hat. To put it back just put the stem back in and push with the tank against something. Make sure you fill your tank though before you remove it.
