Need a Hunting rifle
Hi guys my name is Jonathan and I’m new to the forum. I live in the Caribbean and primary purpose would be pest control birds mainly and small monkeys, which are very destructive and considered pest where I live. My issue is I need a rifle with variable power for indoor shooting in bonds for the birds and max power to reach out 75yrs for those monkeys. I agree that accuracy is most important over power but I need something that would stop these critters in there tracks when I go in the bushes hunting for them as you are paid for them. This is where caliber recommendations would be accepted since I dont know what ftlbs of energy would stop them with a head shot. They are very strong little critters. Most .22s are about 32ftlbs and .25 about 45ftlbs. The only rifles that come to mind would be the fx gladiator(since it is ambidextrous and im left handed) or the Daystates. If the 32- 38 ftlbs would be considered enough to stop them I would choose the .22 as it would be easier to apply for the license and have more shots per fill. Any help would be a[preciated

Sorry if I misled you. When I said indoors I meant bird control in bonds and farms
I would buy the daystate and a cheap plinker for basment shooting then

I have a Marauder .25 and get about 16 good shots (smaller reservoir)
.25 is an air hog but how many monkeys could you shoot in one day?
I carry a pigmey tank charged to 4500 psi and get 75-100 shots with me .25
If you build a duct seal trap any air gun in .25 could be shot in basement
slayer5 I had a marauder .22 which I bought the barrel n other necessary parts to make it a .25 so you can say I had both. The maruader is an excellent rifle for its performance and price but the problem is that its not power adjustable and switching from .22 to .25 is drastically different in terms of hammer and transfer port settings which I experienced from tuning both calibers. The idea of a pigmey isnt bad but its also extra weight and load to be taking in the bushes all day. Also I dont know of anywhere that I can get 4500psi fills. I use my scubba tanks and fill them to about 3600psi so I would also prefer a rifle with its efficient fill charge to be around 3100 psi so my tanks would be able to suffice. THanks again

Everyone that has fx rifles seems to advise the regulated models. I called AoA and no one ever seems too excited in advising the regulated model 😕
The Royale comes in a left-hand version. I got my 500 from Precision Airguns at no extra cost & love it! High shot count with the regulator.
That will allow you to adjust the power, have lots of shots and at 32 or so FPE with the 22 and head shots, it would kill small monkeys. On the lower power end it would work well for inside birding.
Both are superbly accurate and are repeaters to keep valuable game down.
The 25 would kill the monkeys more efficently at 43 FPE, but might be a bit much n the birds.

From what I understand even the fx 500 has a power adjuster as well to turn down the power. You also raised a very important point about regulators. Is the shot string of the fx400 that good that it doesnt need a reg? One other thing is I shoot left handed thats why I was looking at the gladiator over the fx royale models
but my .25 and .22 condors turn the lights out on similar size varmints easy at 75 yards.
Indoor shooting is something I don’t do with mine. Although I have a shooting buddy that had a talon that he shot indoor where the highest FPE allowed was 17. I suppose you could put a talon tophat assembly on a condor bottle, reduce the gap on the TH and hammer preload adjustment spring to “0”. Better have someone else chime in on low power. That’s what my HW55 is for. 😉
Thanks for your input. What are your shot counts on the .25 and .22 and the muzzle energy respectively? Im now doing some research on the talon rifles. If you have time I can give you a call for you to inform me about these rifles
