Need a long range .25
I posted something similar on the yellow but haven’t gotten the answer I am looking for.
I am looking to shoot out to 130yds or so on a consistent basis which is why I am looking at the .25. But I also need something quiet for when I use it from my backyard from time to time. I sold my .22 Condor with the Airhog shroud a while back due to it still being too loud. I think it may have been factory inneficiency but not sure. I would like to have something that throws 42gr (or 28gr in .22) in the upper 900s or so while still being quiet. After some research this is what I have found:
-Condor with full tune from TT
-Theoben Rapid S
-FX Gladiator

Ah, in that case I will probably go with the 50 ft/lb version in .22 then.

Only the 80fpe version has the .223 barrel. The other lower power ones (including the 50 fpe) are standard airgun .22
Well , the .25 I have will hit the FPE you are wanting and is fairly quiet. My buddy’s has a Talon Tunes Shroud and is quieter still. And A lot better built! 😆

What caliber is that Datstate? I recall they had a .223 version that they did not support with ammo for very long. Be sure that the new version shoots something you can actually get!
Thanks airtight. I was thinking that my old Condor just needed a good tune or better moderator. There was definately more noise than just the hammer.
I have narrowed it down now to two rifles. I just read a wright up about the Daystate Air Ranger FAC rated version 80 ft/lbs. Throwing 40gr air bullets at 935fps. I just never heard of anyone purchasing one. I heard of the 50 but not the 80 ft/lb version. Its between this and the Condor now.
I will check into that BSA Lonestar. But I thought I went to the BSA website and the BSAs didnt have the power to push Eun Jins in the 950s.
Then you need a better shroud. Plain and simple. I spit the .25 at 80+ FPE and there is nothing but hammer smack noise. It could also have been that your breech o-rings were worn out. The AF line has the capacity for such a large shroud that I don’t know if you will find anything that can make that kind of power and still be so quiet. Then again I haven’t shot a Lonestar.
With a full TT tune is what I am leaning towards, although that Daystate Air Ranger set up for 50 ft/lbs is tempting.
130 yards is a long way for an airgun. I know there are a few guys that have posted nice groups with 30ish FPE .22s at that range but those are under ideal conditions and generally shot by guys who are excellent shots with lots of time to shoot and wait on conditions. If you can wait on great conditions for your 130 yard shooting sessions, then you have a lot of choices and you don’t need to use a really strong gun. Especially if your backyard shooting is going to be the predominant use. Long range and whisper quiet are competing demands for sure.
You might be satisfied with a TT condor but if it is set up for max performance (power) than you might still worry about noise (even though it is probably louder to the shooter than to anyone else).
You might consider than you can work out two set-ups on a condor. One for say 750-800 FPS with Kodiaks which ought to be great for a backyard session and use little air. And another with a hammer swap that you do for long range sessions. I doubt you can optimize the gun for two distinct things at the same time.
For 130 yards you probably want to be pushing at least 85 FPE with pellets and 100 FPE if you use a heavy slug (yes, like I market but there are others 😆 ). A heavy slug won’t be immune to wind but it won’t drift near as much as a pellet.
If 130 yard shooting is a rare thing, just set up for kodiaks and then do your best when you get to the range. On a decent day, you’ll probably be surprised how well they work.
Negative. I chronied all the pellets I used with the correct fill pressures. Even the Eun Jins going at 950 were too loud for my backyard. I wouldn’t let my Kodies go over 1030.

If you thought the shrouded Condor was too loud it was probably spitting them too fast. There’s no reason that one kept below the sound barrier can’t be kept quiet.
Check out a BSA Lonestar in .25-AOA has them. Rich from Mich has shrouds for them possiblly.-I just recently got a BSA Sportsman- already a GREAT GUN for the money…The Lonestar can shoot 31 grain Kodiaks for almost 50ftlbs…

They replaced the 80 fpe .223 with the new .25. Or so I’m told.
