Need help with balistics on 22 call
This morning I shot 5 crows . 2 from the roof line at 86 yds . 2from the wire at 71 and 73 yds all in the back or chest all fell dead on the ground. Shot crow @ 5 at 55 yds right between the wings he hoped off about 3 yds closer put shot #2 through his chest crossways still hoping shot #3 in the neck . Now he flops for 2 or 3 min. What give? Did i not deliver energy on target ? Or mabey it was a new hybred super crow .
I usly shoot them with my 177 b50 ft rig through the head but its apart for leaks again so i grabed my AA s410 sidelever it shoot 18.1 grn JSBs at 720ish . I dont get it long shots died short shot toke 3 pellets all well placed ??? Need help for my tiny brain. Thanks .[/img]

I have had birds fly a few hundred yards or walk around after a direct hit to the head with my Talon. So I started shooting them lower in the head/ neck area and now they drop dead without a wing flap. 😈
I’ve shot through a pigeons chest front to back and it still flew away. Dead in less than ten seconds but still flew away.
you more than likely hit the boiler room or the spine in the first shots. on the last crow you missed the vital areas, i have done the same thing,i have hit birds in the head and they hit the ground and just set there not going any where just not dead.pellet didn’t hit the brain, ????????
I have gone back to lower boiler room shots , they seem to work best.most just drop like hit by lightning

I’ll take a “shot” at this one. If the pellet design is going to expand at all, at say 700-800 Fps., if you increase the speed it might fragment. I know on hogs or yotes my .223 either tumbles inside or explodes. Slowing it down might make it just punch a small hole, speeding it up has the opposite effect.
Could be all 3 shots went clear through. I seen them bounce past on the ground . and he has 3 exit wounds .

It is possible that the speed of the pellet is so high at close range that it
just punches right through without upsetting much matter… At longer
ranges I am sure it has a harder time getting through and probably
carries some external matter with it through the wound channel…. That is
how my brain comprehends it…. 😯

Mabey when i get my 25 condor Ill just shoot rhere heads clean off. I hear they cant fly without heads . Well atleast not far .
