i have not read many of the replies so sorry if this has been mentioned but i would say the final flag i too close to the fence panel, this will cause dirty, turbulent wind. try setting the flags in a position away from the fence panel and it might tidy up.

(i use to do kite surfing, and kite mountain boarding and found that the slightest obstical can make the wind very dirty.

Makes sense and is easy enough to do…I’ll give that a shot….Thanks

Lama’s advice is correct. You have to shoot with 2 eyes open, one in the scope and one watching the flags peripherally. Line up, ready to shoot, when you see both flags dip either straight at or from you, fire. We do this all the time, you don’t have to make a flag. Just get a 6″ or 8″ piece of yarn and tape it to a chopstick or wire and you can plant them in a line out to your target and have a bunch of telltales. Even firing .22LR at 100 yards (40g) you see a big difference in targets with wind gusting like this. But it doesn’t sound bad, just small gusts so shouldn’t affect too much.

Both eyes open is a given….Trying to time a shot when the flags are in
the same direction is next to impossible. Pulling a smooth trigger is out of
the question for me in that situation. I am not nearly that advanced. That
sounds like Annie Oakley stuff.lol As much as I can see both flags and
the target with my eyes open it is impossible for me to concentrate on 3
seperate things at one time. Trust me I have tried..A 6″ or 8″ piece of
yarn is impossible to read…You can’t tell if it is coming at you or going
away from you…Windage is the easy enough but, trying to figure
elevation is an optical illusion at best. lol. The flags if you look close,
have about 12″ of sewing thread on them so you can get a read on the
wind speed…
Those “Small gusts” as you describe, are 2 mil-dots on X32 mag at times
which is a miss that is just not acceptable. 😡 ..
For now, I think I am going to have to resign myself to the fact that I
don’t have the experience to accurately read the dope when the wind is
in this erratic condition……

I appreciate and will take all of the advice and suggestions into
account…I have a lot of work to do…We will see what happens…

Dam Mam when I used to go to Colorado to hunt, the guy I went with always said The wind don’t blow in Colorado is SUCKS! maybe thats what you have? I can see what you have to deal with does it quit towards evening or dark! if so maybe lights at night? LOL!!!

Yea eddie, it will die down early sometimes but here lately it has been
black before the wind dies…..Yoy know the reason Texas doesn’t fall into
the Gulf is because Oklahoma sucks….Bet it is hard to shoot there too…lol

You need to plant a hedge row.

Even so, I use a bit of ribbon or something.
Me and Lang were shoot 100 yrd target in some nasty wind yesterday. Good 20 mph odd gusts.
.25 didn’t seem to mind too much… 8)

Wind socks would be great if they would ever point in the same direction for more than 5 sec. How can I figure out anything when one is pointing left and the other pointing right…I feel like I am in tornado alley…..I keep looking for Dorothy and Toto to fly by….lol

Exactly 😀
Thats ‘cos its telling you what the wind is doing THAT MOMENT……
Of course its whipping around in those conditions. That metal teller is giving you 5 second old info…….

It is really a very light flag made of cardboard, covered with a 1mil thick
aluminium tape..Weighs a few oz at the most..Not heavy at all….

Wait, is it back right or front right? I can’t tell which way the flags are pointing.

One thing to try, get a real wind sock, like you’d see at an airport. What those may be doing since they are held out is when they get turned by the wind, the momentum makes them keep turning, so it looks like it’s spinning. Try not making the flag stick straight out, just let it hang there.

Jeff what your looking at (as I’m sure you know) is a snipers and spotters worst nightmare. Dopeing that kind of swirling wind is next to impossible. Good luck bro.
