Q:

need help

🙂 guy’s i have a talon .25 with a 18.5″ barrel with a 65gr brass hammer and a brass valve by mark on this board.i’m having alittle trouble finding consistent accuracy.most groups are vertical at about 1 1/4″ with a occasional 3/4″ group(53yrd).i’ve shot the gun at pretty much all the power levels and 7.5 and 10.5 seem to be the best.i don’t know much about setting the tophat on marks valve so any help would be appreciated.i did one chrony string at 200bar with the pw at 10.5 and i thought it was pretty good.it started at 860fps and rose up to 894 and then back to 860 in 52 shots.i’m shooting off bags front and rear with the front bag infront of the forend with no hold and barely holding the rear of gun.i’ve tried firm hold’s to with no change.at 100yrds its averaging in the 3″ range with the occasional 2″er.any help would be greatly appreciated.thank’s

🙂 well guy’s thank’s for all the help.i was talking to tim at mac1 and he gave me some numbers for the tophat adjustment and pw adjustment and boy was i surprized.over the chrony my fpe went way up to 60fpe.my number of shot’s went down but that’s ok.my shot string is only 16 shot’s but with only a 9fps extreme spread total and a sd of 3 and avarage velocity of 935fps.the funny thing is after getting this great string my accuracy was still not great.so i took off the shroud and it was worst.so i decided to mess with adjusting the length of the shroud by sliding it out.after 3 adjustments it is driving tacks.i need to make a new pvc shroud 1.206″ longer.does this sound normal?my last group was only three shots because i had to stop(also just got it sighted in) but i had 2 touching and one just alittle out and the group was 9/16″ at 53yrds.i will post some pics in a couple days.

If set screws are always coming loose they need to be degreased and wiped down really good and so do the threads in the top hat. Once you know where your tophat belongs you can put a drop of blue lock tite on the top hat threads and a tiny drop on the set screw. It should not move.

Also make sure your pellets are consistent in shape and size and be sure to seat them fully flush to the breach consistently each time.

🙂 hey thank’s guys.i am using kodiacs and am not shooting over 900 so my question is how do i do this with my 18.5 barrel?adam i will go threw your list and check everything out.my tophat has alittle set screw that always comes loose.also i noticed it is damaging the threads alittle on marks brass valve stem when tightened.what is the proceedure of removing the hammer?also once in awhile i get blowback gases out the sides of the gun(once every 60 shots or so).i shot it today and it’s driving me crazy after a few settling shots i put 5 shots inside 3/4″ then move to the next target and its all over.i love this gun alot but i need it to be consistent.those groups 3/4″ and 2″ are not the norm but i just know it wants to shoot.

Go through a check list and make sure these things are okay.

Check all 4 barrel screws and make sure they are firm.
Check the barrel and clean it if needed.
Look at the Crown. Is it okay?
Make sure the hammer is not riding on a bunch of lead dust and chattering down to the breech. Clean and lube if needed.
Make sure top hat is not loose.
Do not hold and shoulder gun firmly. This can cause a POI change.
While shooting rest gun on foreend not frame.
If here is a shroud or baffles remove them and try again.
Check orings on breech and make sure the are sealing.

These are just some standard stuff to check out.

In my .25 the Kodiacs seem to do better if kept in the 900-950 fps range. dip into the mid 800’s and they seem to loose consistency.

Yours really isn’t shooting bad at all, under an inch at 50yd is pretty darn good; but does seem there may be room for improvement.

If shooting with a shroud, try a group without it and see if it makes a difference.

What pellets are you using? 3/4″ at 53yds is not that bad but you could probably do a little better.
2″ at 100yds is also VERY GOOD. Most likely it’s inconsistencies in the pellets you are using.

I hear Kodiaks lately have had some issues. They are not consistent or too uniform. Seems like QC has gone down hill with those.. Eun Jin’s have average accuracy and consistency so I would not expect perfect or consistent groups with them.
