Need info on a certain bird
OK, I’ve looked forever online on different bird sites, to identify a certain bird, in the SO CAL area, but can’t find it. I tried to take photos of it but it flys away before I can do it.
It’s medium sized, dark gray. It doesn’t have a short stubby beak like others around here, but a longer, thin beak about 3/4 to a inch long. When they fly they expose large white bands on the wings and tail. They are EVERYWHERE now, and are dive bombing/attacking my cats in the backyard.
Wondering if members here like WOK, Stevein la may know what this is, since these guys live in the greater LA area, and if it’s protected ect. I even see them attacking crows in the air, which in itself isn’t a bad thing I guess lol.

Discription and behavior sound very much like a mocking bird. Do you ever see or hear them sing? Mocking birds have a very varied song that may imitate other birds. I haveone here that you would sware was a blue jay. The white flashes on the wings and white border on the tail (both only seen in flight) are the field marks of this bird.
I’m on the right coast. Didn’t know that they went all the way across the country. Try to get a picture or two and, for Heaven’s sake, don’t shoot them. Starlings, sparrows and pigeons, however…

LMAO. I was just about to post about this bird. I will try and whack one when i get my pump working again, or when i find a place that will rent me a 4500 psi nitrogen tank, which will hopefully be tomorrow. Happy shooting.

“Everywhere now” suggests it’s a migrating bird.
If it dive-bombs your cats it not only has balls, but most likely has a nest nearby.
Hey Kenny, I think your description sounds like it may be one of these. If so, I’m thinking you might need more than that SS to whack one of them ……. 😆 😆
