Q:

New .22 Polymag Shorts in Standard Cricket

I just received them and shot a few as it was getting dark but no chance of shooting a group. Anyone try these yet on paper?

I only bought one tin of the metal mags luckily. My longest shot on a squirrel with a .25 Polymag is 87 yards and it was still stable. I have been much less impressed by the smaller Polymag calibers. They have a .30 cal on the drawing board (they verified that) but it already got delayed from 2014 because of these other projects. The P-Rod pistol stock is really a 50-60 yard gun so the Shorts may workout plus they may be stable a little further with the shorter length. I still need to test them beyond 20 yards but they did very well at short range. Useless in the Cricket.

The metal mags are pretty good till 45 yards. But start falling apart after that. What are they good for and why would a guy buy them? I have not figured it out. Only thing I use them is for close quarter short range pigeon hunting. They are deadly to say the least.

Same in my .25 Edgun. The .25 Predators shoot every bit as well as the Kings.

It appears from sort of reading between the lines that the .25 polymags work well in Crickets… I can say for sure that this is the case for my .25 Cricket. Haven’t shot ’em beyond 50 yards, but out to 50 they make the same hole as the 25.4 JSB Kings in mine… I can shoot a ragged hole group at 50 yards with a mixture of JSB’s and Polymags… I sure was hoping that would be the case for the .22’s as well. Hoped to use ’em on squirrels out of the .22… Haven’t tried ’em yet though, but is sure sounds pretty unanimous that they don’t work… too bad. 🙁

Your right Coda, no luck in the Cricket. I’m not even going to try them in the Bobcat as it only likes the 18.1 JSBs. I’ve tried several different pellets and weights in the BC and it doesn’t like anything but 18.1 JSB.

Ok – let me say that for whatever reason these pellets seem to be doing well in the the Marauders – both rifle and pistol. I just shot one mag in my P-Rod and they rivaled the JSB Jumbo 15.89 gr it really likes.(one rough 5 shot hole on my 20 yard basement range – not sure at 50 yards yet but they look promising) I am reading on forums that the Marauder .22 rifle guys are having a lot of luck as well out to 50 yards. It must be the head size and/or lower velocity. For now I will be shooting these in my P-Rod at roughly 750 fps. Whew – I bought 4 tins of these suckers. 😯 The don’t seem to like the Cricket barrels at all.

Leadbetter, pay for the shipping and you can have this tin, minus 14.

WELL what a disappointment to say the least !

My Cricket 22 standard is set to send JSB 18g @ 880fps, without any adjustment to the HST the Shorts where doing 920 fps.
At 30 yards they did a 5 shot group of 1-1 5/8″ ctc.
Dialed it down to 910 fps 1/2″ group, about the same 1/2″ group all the way down to 850 fps is the same.

Seem to improve the most at 900 fps because of the multi-one holes with some flyers.
For me the standard Poly long shoots better out of my Cricket.

Let me know if they don’t work. I’ll buy em to try in my s200

Well I just got through shooting some targets and could not believe my eyes. 😯 The new 22 short Polymags now are #1 for the worst 22 cal pellets I own. Even the heavy Eun Jin beats them. 😥 We are talking over an inch at 33 yards. I own a lot of pellets and now 4 worthless tins of these. I guess I will see if the P-Rod does any better. 🙄 I immediately shot a single 5 shot hole with the JSB 18s. Maybe if we slow them way down. They looked like they are not even stable. Since my Cricket is shooting the 18s at 915 fps these would be really flying ay 15.89 gr.

I just did some quick calcs and these could be flying as high as 975 fps. That might be a big problem. I will try the P-Rod which is down in the 700s.

Zonk bought some too. But it looks like he ran out of long johns. Doesn’t shoot in cold weather

 good one eelect. Ok Monday was very calm but COLD -6. I walked out and hung a new target through 30+ inches of snow. I just had to know how they shot. After one mag 14 shots at 50 yards I was not impressed. Group was well over 1″, looks like I’ll be sticking to my 18.1 JSBs. $15.00 for 200 of Poly shorts or $16.00 for 500 JSBs. No brainer for me.

The metal mags work good till about 50 yard in my 22 cricket. I use Single loading mag for them. They do some serious damage on pigeons.

Always remember it isn’t the length that counts the most..

Is that what she said.

My order on the shorts are due to arrive tomorrow.

All PolyMags standard length performed okay in some of my gun with LW barrels and if I slow them down a bit. But the laws of diminishing return becomes into play.
For the exception of the 25 cal in which in some cases(Guns) out performed Kings !

Also have you guys tried the MetalMags ?
They seem to have a faster penetration speed and so expands at a great rate oftentimes found still inside the quarry, with a large bulge !

Actually, the .22 regular Polymags never shot worth a crap in any of my guns (like the .25s did) and I always heard it was a longitudinal CG issue. I am hoping the the shorties actually do better. Always remember it isn’t the length that counts the most.

I figured I would try 4 tins.
