New Cricket .25…Taking the Next Step

I decided recently to “bump things up a notch,” and buy a Kalibre Cricket in .25. For the first time I have gotten lucky with an airgun purchase. The Marauder was a bit anemic out of the box and it took adding a hopped up valve to fix that and the Condor has had accuracy issues which, I am in the process of fixing..so all good there. Don’t get me wrong; both are great guns.

But the Cricket arrived after work yesterday, and out of the box…all I can say is, I’m VERY impressed! Solid as a rock…beautiful clean lines…all black tactical look. I think had Borat been here, he might have said: “Great Success…She’s a Nice.”

I cleaned the barrel first thing, (it was filthy), then set it up with the Aeon 6-24X50 that I bought as well. It was chrony’d and checked for accuracy before leaving the retailer and here are their numbers, with JSB 25.4:

969.4; 969.7; 970.1; 970.1; 971.9; 972.7; 970.1; 972.5; 969.5; 974.1

After the set up, I threw a target up at 30 yards. Shot the first shot…right on the bull…held my breath, thinking…please, please, please be a good one and the second shot was right in there too. One flyer or I might have pulled it, then it settled down into grouping like a Mofo-D! :8:
I quickly shot the remaining 5-shot groups (JSB EK’s) before losing the light.

First shots right out of the box….(not sure why I only shot the 3rd bulls-eye once….must have gotten overly excited)

This is looking to be a real “shooter”….good power and accurate…oh, and the trigger? For the first time I understand what people are talking about when they use phrases “crisp” and “breaks like a glass rod.” Not touching the factory setting…works for me. Wonder how this gun will be once broken in. Couldn’t be happier.

For the remainder of the evening I sat on the couch, with it in my lap just looking at it….LOL.

I bet that didn’t go over did it Coda?

Actually, that is what she says. Lately, when I sold one to buy another she tried to intercept the funds.

quote Zonk:

My wife’s used to it. She just walks in and says, Oh I see you got another. Looks like I’ll be going shopping.

Oooo I’ll bet not SECoda…I had a girlfriend who wouldn’t even bat an eye when I bought expensive BB guns…shoulda married her.

My wife sure didn’t smile when I told her “yes another $2000 BB gun”. 😯

Got that right Salt. when I tell people I shoot air rifles, and they look at you like you said.BB gun…you just smile!

BTW I constructed a clay around a coconut “human head”( complete with small hole in mouth to hold a cigarette)…for the truly “forensic” effect! Don’t think I’ll post…totally sick and don’t want to get kicked off the TAG… :angrymob:

😉

Now that is cool KP! MUCH more fun than shootin’ paper and dots! I like takin’ pine cones out the tops of tall pines… buddies can’t believe how these little ol’ bb guns will shoot! … but we all know how! :winkn:

Guys,
Meet my friend, “Patches” the squirrel. I call him that because I shoot him full of holes then patch him up that evening. He’s made out of pottery clay so I keep him in a zip lock bag until it’s time for him to do his thing….sit up top of a cardboard box out in the field.

He weighs in at about 10lbs …..

I worked on the Cricket this weekend and she was shooting nice so I decided last thing, to get Patches out and have a little fun. The sun was going down so I ran it out to an unknown distance ( as far as I could on the hill before it got too low and lasered it back at the gun at 64 yards)….a respectable and realistic hunting distance.

Entered coordinates into Strelok, threw the cross hair on him and fired. First shot took of the back of his head, (8 mph crosswind from l to r), shot 2-3 through the eye and neck then I went for body heart-lung shots. all hits, no misses. fun fun.

Very dense clay but JSB Kings zip through like soft butter!

…. :3:

Soon he’ll be good as new for 100yds…..AND BEYOND!!!!!!! :8:

Cropped and resized. That beard is more visible. :biggrinn:

On my way home from a sporting goods store not an hour ago. hard to see but he has a 7-8″ beard. Someone got out to get him off of the road right in town. 😯

It’s like looking at a turkey through your scope……you can’t miss!

I’m jealous Zonk. They are slowing coming into farm yards now. Man these things are huge when your used to shooting sparrows and starlings all winter.

Nice shot 42! I’m heading out to the lake “lake Erie” this week to do some Grackle shooting. I was out there Thursday and there were millions roosting in the reeds along the lake. I usually take my Browning 12ga over under but I can’t seem to put this Cricket down. Taking 1000 pellets and my great white tank.

quote Zonk:

Sweet! 25 to 45 yards the only thing I aim at is the sparrows head. I have to at least make it challenging.

This past weekend, a ba-zillion starlings landed in one of my pastures and started walking from one end to the other (about a 3 acre fenced pasture). From my back door, I rested my .25 cricket against the frame, focused my Bushnell FFP in the general area of about a dozen, then drew a bead on one estimated to be about 110 yards – holdover about 3 mildots. I fired and the field exploded with feathers flapping. I saw a wing flap on the ground, obstructed with grass, so I thought I should go out and finish it. I took my Nikon rangefinder with me. When I got out to the bird, there were two others laying next to it. No shit – three with one shot. And when I ranged the shot, it was 123 yards. Had to smile with that shot.
