NEW Edgun R3M (multi shot) 25 cal Long Review

Well, here is my assessment of the new Edgun R3M or multi shot in 25 cal Long pictured below.

It was a beautiful 75 degree day here in Florida with no breeze what-so-ever. You couldn’t ask for better shooting conditions. My range is set-up for 100+ yards all with self resetting targets. Just keep plinking and plinking one shot after the other.

The fit and finish are usual Edgun quality. In fact, these seem to be better. There is a new bolt through the stock which holds the main component in place whereby not resting on the back of the stock as previous models which has caused cracks in the stocks for some of you. Great idea! See pic below:

Next are the magazines themselves. Fit is snug with high tolerances. So much so that after loading the two mags about 20 times each they are showing serious wear on the input and output surfaces where the black powder coating is wearing off. I’m not entirely sure I like the way the mags just hang out in mid air when put into the breech. There are 3 pellets that are 100% exposed. At various times these pellets worked their way loose and fell out in the middle of a shot. This happened more than once or twice. And yes, I run my thumb over all the pellets to make certain they are all well seated in the mag before I insert the mag. It concerns me. I don’t know how the fit of the pellets will hold up after a couple thousand pellets are run through these mags.

I think the mags should have a plastic cover over the pellets on the input side if they are going to hang out in mid air similar to FX magazines. This is a potential problem with keeping the pellets in the mags as they age.

As a side note, the Edgun mags are very similar to the Cricket mags. However, the Cricket mags go fully into the breech where the breech holds the pellets from falling out. The Edgun mag only goes in partially whereby exposing 3 pellets and potentially creating a problem with pellets falling out between shots.

Also, the mags fit very snugly in the breech which is good but you have to tug on them to get them out. Very laborious. I would imagine this will work itself in as well; time will tell.

The bolt is also very tight and requires a good pull but I suspect this will work its way in as time goes forward.

Do the mags below look like brand new mags with only 20 insertions each?

That doohickey lever is not a safety as we know it but a safety which prevents you from loading two pellets at the same time should you load a pellet and need to not shoot the shot.

I’m a very good shot and we shoot at 100+ yards. The gun itself was all over the place but improved tremendously as it broke in. By the time I was putting out the 300th or so pellet it was shooting much better. I anticipate this shooting equally as good as my single shot Edguns.

Overall, it a nice gun and a lot of fun to shoot. The mags concern me but only time will tell if my concerns are justified. I believe they will be. Overall and I hate to say this and many of you may not agree with me but I may swap out my single shot breech for the multi shot breech for the upgraded bolt in the stock and stick with my single shot Edgun.

If you think about it, by the time you load 9 pellets in the mag, insert the mag or if you shoot 9 single shots, the time to shoot 9 shots either way is probably about the same.

Overall it’s a nice gun with perhaps an issue with the mags. Those of you who never owned an Edgun, will like it but I believe the veteran Edgun owners will agree with me with regard to the mags and preferring the single shots (unless of course your a veteran Edgun lemming).
