new flashlight cree xm-l
won a cree XM-L led flashlight on ebay for mere 11 bucks….waited for about a month for it to show up from china….sigh…but yesterday it got here
holy fucking crap this thing is awesome !
i got a P7 900 lumens flashlight(reviewed before), and this xml led is just a tad more powerful, but it has a lot more throw, (throw=ability to light up distant objects) (spread is what a household bulb does and lights up a room evenly)
P7 gets hot…real hot, and uses a bunch of power, after 15 minutes it burning hot, however the xml does not which is really cool, well it gets hot, just not as fast
these powerful leds have a tendency to spread a lot, and so not be the best for lighting up and object 50-100 yards away…xml fixes this
if your looking for a led for lamping or general use i would highly recommend the xml, its the best throw, stays cooler
the internal of the flashlight contains the reflector and circuitry…same as the r5, s2 and other leds, which means if you buy a cheap gun light with a xenon or something you can probably drop this sucker right in as a replacement and get upgraded from 20-40 lumens to a 1000 !
also if your looking for über leds keep an eye out for sst-50 and sst-90, last one is supposedly capable of 2500 lumen….from a single led…im gonna ask electrolumens if i can get my fire sword converted up to these…imagine…four sst-90 = 10.000 lumen, bet you could cook with that…its current 3000 lumen is not bad, but more is better
anyhow the xm-l led is highly recommended

Also what are the brand names of these LED flashlights for those of us that are ignorant? I see a lot of model #’s I think, but not the actual brand name. Then again I don’t know anything about these high-lumen lights either 🙂 I have not done any research on them for 3yrs or more..
I am looking for a strong gun light for one of my Condors, at least 200 Lumens but don’t think I need 1,000 lumens. Can you please recommend 2 or 3 of these inexpensive Chinese LED flashlights between 200 and 500 lumens, and where to buy them from? I hope the ones you guys are talking about have a 1″ body for easy mounting?

I’ve ordered 3 different model flashlights, 1000,1300, &1600LM Zoom with Cree XM-L LED and a pair of scope rings from China. And I saved a bunch of $ over state side prices.

I used a single 1″ ring mounted to a Picatinny/dovetail mount adapter that I put on a Marauder pistol. It worked just fine. You can also shim the inside of the ring with tape to get it to fit tight, if necessary.
I have some scope ring odds and ends. Let me know if you need one.

I just ordered the batteries and the charger.
I have a bunch of those 3 volt battereis, too bad it does not use them, they are left over from a light laser combo and a light I had on AR’s at one time that used those short fat 3 volt batteries. My kid got a bunch of them while in the usmc.
So when the Chinese get all this to me I will light up the night. Just have to figure out how to mount it, hopefully either 1 inch or 30 MM rings will work.

These new high power LED’s usually use the lithium rechargable double A sized 3.6 volt batteries. The one I have now uses a 3.6 volt “LS 14500 (Li-SOCI)” and these are available on Ebay in either regular or rechargeable. If you are lucky enough to find one locally, they will cost a lot more. It says you can use AA 1.5 volts, but your power is greatly diminished.
My other 200 lumen LED uses a 3 volt C123, and the best place is to order a large pack of them on Ebay. Locally, they run about $5.00+ a pair, or more, but the imported ones work just fine, and are whole lot cheaper.
The best idea, for these high drain powerful lights, is to go rechargeable no matter what kind of battery they are. More expensive initially, but a whole lot cheaper in the long run.
Usually the seller will indicate what kind of batters the light takes, so you can order them before the light arrives. Of course, everything comes from Hong Kong.
I used the Buy It Now and picked mine up for about $27.00. It’s an Ultrafire and I’ve had very good luck with them.
I told my wife when I die to double bag my sorry ass, and drag it out to the curb. Let the county take it from there.

Did the $11 get you a drop in LED or the whole light? How about some more info.

I took your advice and bough one a while back and so far I have been really happy with it, It is brighter then anything else I have. I took a couple of pics of it for you it is an Ultrafire and I got it from Hong Kong sorry about the bad picture of the bulb.. it is a little square yellow bulb

Currently, some high end autos are using LED headlights. I wondered how they managed to get that much power. Now I know. Just bundle up some of these babies, or their big brothers and you have plenty of light.
I really appreciate your post. Now I have to wait until the light arrives from Hong Kong. That’s all right. I’m doing pretty good with my traps, so the little sneaks aren’t getting away with too much.

yeah my new is in the 501B body….and yes it will be A LOT brighter than the 200 lumen version (i assume its an R5 or Q5 or something like it) the xml will make your 200 lumen look like a toy !
it has a very powerful center, and then decent spill around that center so its very useful
i use 18650 batteries that are 2.4Ah , with protection built in, its very important you use batteries with built in protection, as the flashlight has no low voltage cutoff, it can easily drain the battery and permanently ruin it…they are lithium polymer batteries, need special charger, never charged above 4.2v and must never fall below 3v….if not they may in best case be ruined, and in worst explode…lipo’s can be dangerous
i will see if i can snap some pictures to compare my 270 lumen R5 which is a great thrower, with the xml….both in same flashlight/same reflector/battery, so it should be a good comparison
502b body is slightly more robust, theres more aluminum to disapate the heat
here the two are….look at how much more yellow stuff (which makes the light) there is in the xml

I have an earlier 200 Lumen version of the 501B and I was very impressed with its brightness, but not with it’s range. With my aging eyebulbs, I can’ t really see squat with the Gen 1+ night vision scopes, so a good LED with a low power scope does the job for me.
Now, thanks to you, I’ve ordered a 1000 Lumen version, with rechargable battery pack, and I’m really looking forward to testing this rascal out.
I was very impressed with the illumination of the earlier 200 Lumen when used with a low power scope at ranges to about 100 feet. The new one should really “shine” (pardon the pun) for my nasty night business with local critters. Hell, even if I miss, I’m sure the light alone will set their fur on fire…makes a followup shot much easier!!!
I think the rechargable battries are a must with this light, as I assume it uses a whole lot of amperage, and those special 3.6 volt double A batteries are not cheap. The ones I ordered with the light are 3000 mil-amp hrs, so they should keep this sucker bright for a good while.
