Q:

New Frame Design?

Has anyone tried designing a new frame using the airforce valve design. I am thinking of a non-tube design for the breach, and keeping the hammer from using the barrel for a slide. What trigger design would be the best, I know there are hundreds out there, I am just thinking a drop in unit maybe? Anyone out there thinking the same thing?

Another Design I would love to see is something similar to that Logun S16 or the Edgar Brothers XVi rifle, with a few changes.

Sidelever
able to shoot slugs or .25 heavies
power wheel
built in AR grip mount
better working mag
condorSS length frame

When I say slugs, I don’t mean cast bullets… I mean like jerry’s slugs… I’m not sure a platform like the EB XVi would handle anything higher than (MAYBE) 30 fpe. It’s only available in 12 fpe as of right now. Basically a Tony AAA condor In an EB XVi with the above listed improvements. Now that would be a sweet rifle!!

Okay so here is a preliminary rough layout. Please tear this thing apart and tell me what you think. Please make suggestions.

I wanted the barrel mounted solid so, I had to come up with another way to strike the valve. I am really not a fan of this type of linkage; it’s one of the best options I had come up with that would be compact. The design could be tested relatively easy if I had some ways to make it. A standard valve could be used, linkage made and a tube used for the spring and hammer. Just thinking ahead.

I am also looking at the same bolt lever cocking the hammer. This would probably be either a bolt or lever. The bolt would be an easier and less complicated design.

Or, somehow design a remote set up, like tethering a tank… but (I’ve asked this many times, never really got a straight answer, so I assume it’s hard to determine) Use a smaller pre-chamber

I have heard 1cc per fpe, but not sure about that. The reality is that it all comes down to pressure that you are running. The higher the pressure the lower volume needed, the lower pressure the higher volume needed. There is a balance when it comes to efficiency though.

I hope to put up a rough design tomorrow, I got dimensions for a timney trigger so I think that will work. The problem is coming in the valve hammer design because I would like a better barrel mounting setup.

Maybe someone with valve experience will chime in on the valving. As from what I have read here it can be a little tricky.

I think it would be a great idea to create a new chassis based on the AF stuff… the other problem is how to not make it look like an Ork designed the damn thing… I was thinking a chassis like the Savage BA 110 rifle, or the XLR chassis, or similar. I would keep the bottle in back for now just because it’s easy… Or, somehow design a remote set up, like tethering a tank… but (I’ve asked this many times, never really got a straight answer, so I assume it’s hard to determine) Use a smaller pre-chamber, like an Edge sized tank, or something, and tether it to lets say, a 68 cu in 4500 psi tank w/whatever output JDS airman valve w/a 4500 psi remote line… Not really a completely enclosed system, but it’s closer to your goal.

I think it would be great if we could get a good detailed drawing to Tony that expands on the TT Wok guard and creates a “chassis”, think something like the MDT TAC21 type for Remington, and Savage actions that would allow the use of an AR style butt stock, lower weaver, or similar lower and upper rails. Think the rails could be ad-ons, that maybe bolt through the top of the frame “handle”, and lower frame. This would not only stiffen the frame even more, but if we put our collective heads together could provide for better ergonomics, solid scope, and accessory mounts, and think how nice it would be to use a nice adjustable ( within reason due to the bottle) butt stock. Hey I love the TT Wok Butt, however if we could help design a chassis, the potential could be better than the great products that address these issue now. I personally have both of the above mentioned products, and love them both, additionally I made a stock roughly based on the Mad Dog to see how I would like that, and found even more accuracy from that rifle as well, so I know we have fixes for these issues, but I just though a full chassis that bolts to the Air Force frame would be above and beyond. Just a crazy thought at this moment, but I would be willing to at least try to assist in a design, and since I have more than one rifle, would be happy to keep one in various stages of dis-assembly for testing. Tony, if you think I’m insane, or that I might have a plausible idea, just let me know. Maybe I can get a pal in a local machine shop to maybe mock up a prototype, after I make a proof of concept out of another softer material so we can get proper measurements, and check for fit.

Nut job in training,
Casey

A rail on the forestock for bipod or light.
Keep it short and light.
Good ergonomics, make it easy to shoulder and sight.
Sidecock

The trigger is the only thing, no one has really figured out yet.

I would add the following to you list:
– a single or dual front bottle
– a firearm buttstock adapter.
– quick disconnect shroud mount on the frame

:2cents:

I have a frame somewhat designed and laid out here is the look that I have come up with.

I am looking at the firing linkage and the valve. Anyone want to chime in on either the valve and or linkage.

This design will use an airforce type valve, be non-regulated or regulated using a firing chamber.

I am still working on this, so what do people want in a new receiver? This will help with the items I have over looked.

Here is my list.
1. regulated or regulatable
2. side bolt
3. completely adjustable, and easy to do so
4. front bottle and/or rear
5. quick and easy to change barrels from 177 to 357

Does anyone know anything about Timney triggers, I am thinking a Mauser trigger would work. I really would like to get the dimensions on one.

I know triggers are tricky business so I figure using a predesigned drop in unit will eliminate a lot of issues. Then I would just need a linkage to the hammer release.
