New Groups / .25
Shot another set of groups at 85 yards with the .25 in the MD stock.
There are 5 sets of groups here. The first left top is two different groups with the seft group shot second after a left click of one.

I had been wondering if a boat tail could work at these low velocities.
I still to this day wonder why no one has tried a PB .22 bbl. such as a marlin micro grove with avaliable .22 cal slugs in one of our guns.
Now that the .25 is around, it is probably not an issue. As a .25 can get more air behind te projectile.
But still, It seems do-able to me.
North American Arms sells bare .22 bullets that fit their tinny cap and ball revolvers. CHEAP the last time I looked. Cheaper than many pellets. Much custom cast bullets. Even a .22 factory LR bullet has a sort of boat tail. A little like a bullet designed for a gas check. ( Where the shell caseing is normally crimped on a rimfire bullet).

I wonder if the gas check not being installed on the bullet could act sort of like a boattail.
Herters used to sell boattalils that were not too far off from a “gas checkless” bullet years ago.

A boat tail does aid in slipping the wind vs a flat base, gas check or diablo pellet by simply taking away the VACUUM at the back of a bullet and aiding it in “slipping the air”. So without that vacuum, the bullet retains its speed more effectively.
So i would have to say yes. Today, the HALEY and the DOUG CONDOR can push 257 bullets from 900-1200 fps which is now approaching rim fire speeds or powder burner speeds. That’s about 600-720 MPH! And you had better believe that at those speeds, there IS a vacuum at the rear of a bullet. Of course, like all bullets, the faster you push them to a degree, the more the BC INCREASES.
When i get my Corsair .308 back up and running, i plan on buying a boat tail mold that looks damned sweet.
2-Faz, would a boat tail configuration do anything at our low velocities? Thinking wind bucking ability here.

Well MAW, you threw out the verbal challenge….lol! Its supposed to be all about Knife and his most awesome group. And i do mean MOST AWESOME! My 100 yard group was posted before. Its was like .834″ IIRC for 5 shots on 1 fill. My best with my Rapid was about the same size group IIRC. Actually just a little bigger than that. But at 150-200 and the Rapid……PHAGHETABOUTIT!
The one thing about pellets is that in calm conditions and with many shooter now, they can really make tight groups out to 100 yards. Let’s not get it twisted……PELLETS and PELLET GUNS ARE DAMNED ACCURATE and there is no real argument there. The diff with bullets though is that they perform just as well far out as they do close in and are less affected by wind and hold their FPE and FPS a lot better. A LOT!

Yep, ANY pressure on the bottle changes the poi. Neck gets stiff from hovering! 👿 Getting a little long in the tooth ya know. At least somthing is still getting stiff! What’s ya gona do?

Don’t despair and let those wide groups get you down Mike.
Perhaps you could try a better scope, those cheap ones always spread the groups out like that.
Are your barrel bushing tight?
You might try cleaning the barrel, or weighing your pellets.

Yea. Which loading manual was it that said “The .257 Weatherbys results on varmints is spectacular”! ?
I ended up with a custom Sako .240 Wby, and it was superb.
Anyway… I miss that one.
I would LOVE to try a .257. In PB’s the .257 Weatherby was always my fav.! 😀
