Q:

New, LIGHT air !!

Like already mentioned i bought a new tank to replace my heavy, clumsy old tank. It´s an 8 liter/ 300 bar carbon/composite from Best Fittings, UK.
Weighs nothing in comparison. My unbelievably accurate bathroom scale says 5.4 KG = 11.9 lbs empty.
Gives Papa many fills on the range. 😈

I’m pretty sure any gas could be used in an airgun and it should function similarly….but the gauge on the gun would be inaccurate. Different gasses require different gauges….I’m pretty sure.

What I remember is there is a huge disparity on pricing across the country and a few get the Nitrogen relatively cheaply while other pay dearly. Not sure why that is.

quote Dr. Steele:

Nitrogen would work very similar to air…but with no moisture. Bang found out details and determined it was too expensive. I followed and found out its $70 yearly rental on a 224 cf 6500 psi steel tank. Fills are $324 if you pick up and it’s $60 additional to setup a delivery plan per trip. Initial cost is the cheapest….$400 bucks and you have enough to last you 2-4 months (depending on your usage). It has 4.5 time more usable air then an 88 cf carbon fiber tank at 4500 psi. Start up cost for carbon fiber would be $750 with $6 refills every 2-4 weeks. Doesn’t take long for the nitrogen to get REALLY expensive.

Looking forward to “borrow back” some of your lightweight air 😀

On the other gas theme my money is on a heavier one and I think you will have a problem with leakage when using helium.
If you all beg I might do some chronographing and scientifically investigate the noble gas Argon.
The name “argon” is derived from the Greek word αργον, neuter singular form of αργος meaning “lazy” or “inactive” like me so it’s not very likely that I’ll do it but maybe if get too bored with doing nothing I’ll grab my chrono and have at it…

Night night and do let the bug bite Zzzzz

If you do some searches you will see that everything has already been researched and tried. Lots of folks are using Nitrogen. Of course air is 78% Nitrogen. 😀

Helium is soooo thin i bet it would leak out from your tube. What about Nitrogen ?? That´s stable ,at least. Doesn´t expand while heated etc, etc.

I love the smell of napalm in the morning….

It’s actually Sarin gas….excuse me…..and….it’s not even a gas. I guess we can skip this one.

Serin gas may be quite effective for hunting purposes.

This is my week to hijack threads. I’ve resisted to no avail. It’s a curse. Anyway, anybody experimented with different gases for charging airguns? Specifically, lighter than air like helium. Would it flow more efficiently because it’s lighter, or produce better expansion?

I’ve still got the flu and the resulting medicine head, but the idea of “light” air, or at least other gasses has me curious.

Congrats. Well I just put in a new toilet in the unfinished basement and a new faucet upstairs in the kitchen. We are both pretty handy. 😳
