Q:

new machine .

hope this post works .
so a while back i asked for suggestions from you guys , the result was getting the new syil x6 cnc mill , which i plan on reviewing some more on another site .

i had many concerns with it from the time i ordered . when it came i had some more . but i am relizing a $10,000 cnc machine is not a $100,000 machine ( who knew 🙂 .
it took 6months an 7 days to get to me . it was in good shape other then some stuff i had to tighten an fix , an a few bolts missing …. but i have it working pretty good for some one who has never run a cnc machine before.
any one buying one should realllly look it over well before running it , an check to see how square the head is mounted . an for any other flaws .

over all i am happy with the machine an id tell any one thinking of getting in to cnc to do so , its a fun hobby an alot easier then i thought ..be prepared to break a few end mills if your like me . the x6 is a big machine an id bet the x4 would be a good hobby size , but i realy wanted the x6modle for the huge table an saddle .

….. if ya want to read more an see vids…. http://www.cnczone.com/forums/canadian_club_house/133552-syil_x6_still_testing.html

some pictures to compare it to a bridgeport 9×42” , and a few things ive made . indexer , wheel

yep I know it can get confusing G codes and other things that come up! and teaching yourself is a challange in itself! I started doing better just before they downsized where I worked and was learning to do things a bit better! My problem was when I did a program for a peice I wanted to make is getting interupted in the shop with someone coming in wanting something fixed or wanting a job done! I found allot of the time I would give the program to much information to do like a bolt circle or similar deed! so I finally learned to give it just the minimum info and things seemed to work better! I seen a set up a while back online where they scanned a piece to be made 3d stuff and then the machine would make it! I would think someone would come up with a simpler way of programing a cnc machine!

it uses the standard g coding . same as ”fanac i think it is called ”
the running program is mach 3 . it works great when i write codes , it also has wizard pre sets …. they are not so great , but some work well .
i tought myself g code just by looking at the prefix for g an m , an messing around . id been manual machining for 15 years an stuff seemed to fall into place easy . mach 3 free down load helps alot to show you the codes from the pre sets aswell .
takes a long time to write out codes but they are always right when you check them line by line .
ive also used bob cad an a few others , which i tought my self . its pretty easy to use an almost always produces the right codes . hard to learn to use all the features . micro carve is a $30 program which seems to work ok as well , very easy to use an you can mess around with black an white pictures in photoshop to make almost any smooth 3d part/ picture
i spent about 8 months teaching my self before i got the machine . an once i did get it i realized i had a few wrong ideas .
machine has been working great . hope to have some good 3d parts cut , 2.5d is great fun .

I admire those of you that have lathes and make your own parts it looks like it would be very satisfying. I enjoy making stuff as well but have never had someone show me how to use a lathe correctly. Although they are a lot of money it would be cool to build things with one. Best of luck jezx using your new toy.

So Jezx what do they use as far as a program for your mill or most? do they still us G code and how did you learn how to program it? some of the ones I got to work on for a short time were difficult to program I thought! let me know if you get a chance thanks Eddie

Congrats on the new machine! I can’t wait until I can get a cnc machine. It will still be a few more years, before I can get one.
