New Mad Dog Ultima Stock – Wow!
Finally got back in town today and was able to put the Mad Dog Ultima Long on my SS that Doug delivered last week. All I can say is what a great product. Fit and finish are excellent. I think it looks great. Added very little in terms of weight, and made the rifle even more accurate than it was before. I only got a chance to shoot one 10 shot group with it at 25 yards before the wind started howling, but it was a pretty damn good group. The one shot that was higher than the rest was all on me. I could blame it on the patio furniture cushion I was shooting off of, but that wouldn’t be fair to the cushion. Can’t wait to put some better glass on this sucker and see what it will do at longer distances. A Hawke is my next upgrade 😉

Yep, I wouldn’t go back to the bare frame again. Doug’s Stocks are really all “THAT”! 😉
Who the Hell knows what AF is going to do. We have been trying to get them to fix the frame flex problem for YEARS! And it just falls on deaf ears. 🙁

I have an Maddog Ultima stock on my TSS and I love it, way better than the way they come from the factory. I love mine.

This mad dog stock and frame flex is really ancient technology.
Fifty some years ago, yep way before the internet, I sporterized my first rifle. Just the sound of a British 303 Jungle Carbine could rip the ass hole out of anything in the vacinity of its 215 grain jacketed soft point slug. But the point is by word of mouth from my local smalltime “Was New Sport Shop” gunsmith I learned a little about barrel embedding. Mr. Schoenberg sold me the 303 still packed in cosmoline(sp) and a rough cut near full length sport style, with cheek rest, stock. The verbal instructions were that I should shape the area as closely as possible to the barrel or use something that would harden under the barrel to embed it. I took a lot of time and fit it as perfectly as possible by hand. That thing barked like a banche(sp) and on the second tweek of the scope it perfectly marked the center of my target at 100 yards. No, I didn’t win a prise 😆 but after the sound had scared the M1 shooters on either side of me , their jaws dropped when they saw the target.
The point is, barrel embedding is ancient technology and is relevant to the aluminum frame flex of air rifles, albeit especially the AF brand that continues to provide us with much pleasure as we MODers, as opposed to the expensive hardware shooters, become familiar with and somewhat loyal to our special creations.
