New method to level a scope????
I’m not sure if this is my creation or if someone else has discovered it before. Anyway, it is an easy way to level the reticle if you have no bubble levels for your action and or scope turret.
While adding two .012 shims to the rear ring of my SS 10×40 on my .257 condor in preparation for ridding a friends farm of a pack of killer yotes who have been killing his animals lately I mounted the scope and before I reached for my bubble levels I noticed that while doing a visual inspection from the muzzle end to see if it was near level to the action…I closed one eye and had a great view of the reticle through the bell! I also noticed that directly behind the reticle was a piece of level trim on a wall. The rifle was at a right angle to this trim on the wall and the surface the rifle was sitting on was also level.
After torquing the rings down I looked through the bell again and the reticle line was “visually” parallel to the piece of trim on the wall. Afterwards I double checked with three bubble levels and it proved to be Level.
Now if anyone has ever done this before let me know, otherwise I want to have it named after me like discovering a star in the heavens, lol.
Merry Christmas and a lead filled New Year!
