New scope for the Ranger 45
I ordered a new scope for my Ranger 45 last week from Midway.
I had a Burris Fullfield 2×7 shotgun scope on it with the Ballistic plex. It was a nice scope, but I wanted something a little nicer.
Midway had VXII 3×9’s with the LR Duplex for $280.00 delivered to my Post office, so I bought one in matte finish with out the adjustable AO.
I am a firm believer that a big game scope does not need a adjustable AO. Scopes for other shooting sports may need them, but big game animals being big by nature and definition so being 3/4 of an inch off is not an issue and being skittish where I hunt, they just don’t give you the time to do the Field Target focus drill.
As a result all the scopes I use for elk hunting are non adjustable for Parallax.
I got the scope in and sighted it in in just one shot to be 1.5 inches high at 30 yards, and right on at 60 with Lymans 452389 which is a wadcutter.
With a 3000 PSI fill it gives me three shots in the 970 range which is around 400 FPE.
The Burris will go ont he AirArcher
The LR Duplex will give me a POI out to 90 yards with this load on 6 power. I will need to do some range work to see how far out I can reach with this combination.

For what I paid for all of this I could in fact have bought a Edgun.
I really like my Tactical 5×15 3200 Bushnell and my new VX 2 3×9, but this VXII should really be tits.
Speaking of tits, my Chairgun went tits up. It happened when I downloaded a upgrade from Webroot on my computer and now I can’t get into CHairgun, Chairgun is on my Icon page, when I hit the Icon the Chairgun emblems comes up, but when I click on it it just diappears, same thieng with the Hawke BRC program.
So I went to Hawke opstics and got another download sent to me. When I tired to download that one, it shut my computer down completley. I have tired to see how to disable Webroot to fix the problem, but will eventually have to take this fucking thing to the Geek Squad to get it going again. I had to do that when I got a new printer and it would not print my CHairgun and BRC scope dope.
I really hate computers.

Hey Roach, I tried the Google route and couldn’t find the Holland website. How about a link?
I really like the Hawke 6.5-20 X 42 1/2 mil dot tactical scope. That reticle is killer for air gun use, the glass could be a lot better though. I also like the way Chairgun works with it. Punch in the numbers and Chairgun gives you the yardage aim points. 20 X is good to 134 yards and 14 X is good to 160 without having to use clicks.
I would like to get a very scope to put on my Edguns! 30 aim points would be sweet! It could be trouble getting Chairgun to come up with aim points for it.

P.S. You need to quit pissing around with the Air Arms and FX guns: just buy an Edgun and be done with it! 😆
I always said that you should spend as much on glass as you do for your rifle, but most folks tend to spend Crosman 417 prices for their glass and wonder why they go bad.
I have always loved Leupolds, 20 years ago when I fell in love with VXIII 3X10’s, I used to say if I wanted a cheap scope I would buy a VXII.
One of my favorite cominations at the time was a Remingtron Sendero in 300 Remington Ultra mag and a VXIII 3X10X50 that I had the factory put target turrents on, a scope dope sheet taped to the stock and the Swarovski RF-1. I once shot a coyote 2 times at 732 yards out of 3 shots, first one was just over his back because I misread a head wind.
Before that I had a SR25 with a M4 on it, but found it too bulky for chasing elk.
Then air gunning raised it’s ugly addictive head :P, and I bought a Baraska 4×12 and then a 2×7, I mean shit they were only air guns after all, then I tried the Millet TR-1, and finally a good scope again, a Busnell Tactical 3200 5×15, and now here I am again buying Leupolds.
Now if you want to really see a great scope, try looking at Hollands site at their VXIII 4.5X14X40 Long range 30 MM SF with their ART MOA reticle.
It is $1250.00 on Holland’s site. I got one off of Ebay from Mike at Utah Rifle LLC for less than half that, it will go on the FX Royale 400 that tracking says will be here on next Tuesday.
It gives 30 aiming points on the reticle and range finding not to mention 116 minutes of adjustment.
That combination and the Swarovski RF-1 means nothing eating my damn grapes is safe. 😀

New scopes are fun! Playing with that long range reticle will be fun for sure.
That low-power 400fpe loading should make for a fine deer, or “anything other than Elk (and maybe large Black Bear)” load.
