New SS
Hey guys, first post.
Okay, I’m a noob (everyone say, hi noob) I’m in the process of ordering an SS. I’m going back and forth with Tony at Talon Tunes about modding a gun I don’t even own yet. ( i need help) My question is this. WHAT IN THE WORLD DO I NEED TO USE A SCUBA TANK? I’ve seen so many posts but never a good explaination of the materials needed to go from the tank to the gun. I have a local scuba shop that can fill a tank(which I don’t own yet either 🙄 ) not sure of the PSI they can fill to. Can some NICE soul help out a 50 year old noob?

I bought a Hill pump for my Talon SS, and while shooting with HPA gives top performance, its a lot of work just to get 50 shots or so. I am primarily a target shooter. I bought the CO2 adapter and really enjoy shooting this rifle with CO2 instead of HPA. I get over 600 shots on a 20 ounce tank. This makes shooting really enjoyable without carrying all that crap around with me. This rifle is good up to 50 yards with CO2. Shooting this way makes this great fun.

You might want to look at a shoebox compressor also. With one of those, you could start with a smaller tank. Sooner or later, you’re going to buy a larger carbon fiber tank. Justa thought. Good luck and have fun.
This is all opinion, so I’ll skip the reasoning…..
3000psi AL tank is standard for diving, entry for non-pump filling of your gun.
3500psi Steel tank is a great balance between fill availability (all shops) and cost.
4500psi Carbon Fiber is the Cadillac but has limited locations that can fill.
I use a 100 cu ft steel tank at 3500psi and make three trips to the SCUBA shop per year. A new gun owner will make a little more before you settle down. To quantify the difference between 3500psi and 3000psi check this out at AirHog: http://www.airhog.com/tank.htm
Here’s my 3500psi DIN assembly:
You can spend $180-$250 on a quality high pressure pump or just a bit more for ZERO effort on your part and no seal failures. Just mount, open the valve carefully and close when you hit your pressure…. Takes seconds.
Go for the AAA it’s worth it. My wife was uneasy about it at first but she got over it. I received mine in July after a four month wait but it’s unbelievable, truly better than I expected. Mine shoots just about every pellet I put through it well. Exactas are absolute lasers at lower fills and kodiak are best at full fills. I have not adjusted any of Tony’s work to date because it works and shoots flawlessly.I have 2k rounds through it. This Christmas my wife got me a 106 cu/ft scuba tank that fills to 4350 Lbs.. I’m not sure how many fills I will get, but now my hill pump will be collecting dust. My shooting has gotten better also because pumping really brings up your heart rate. I am sure any way you go with a Tony gun, your going to be happy. Good luck.

Well Tony is trying to break me, offered me a AAA package for the Talon. Might have to take him up on it. he’s been gone for a couple days (holidays) soon as we hook back up I may be broke 😉
No you just show up with the scuba tank. You will need a scuba yoke, a $60.00 Item to fill yourAF tank, the fill adapter for the AF tank will be in your packaging, and you can buy the scuba yoke with your SS, Af sells all this in a package deal.
When you get it all do not hesitate to get on the TAG if you have questions.

Thanks for all the help guys, think I’ll stick with one tank for NOW, the wife is still looking at me cross-eyed for just the rifle. I’m sure I’ll go nuts, i have an addictive side to me, I started collecting knives a couple years ago and now….well 😈 Will I need to bring anything other than the tank to the scuba shop? I’ll check with them on Monday to see if they have any used for sale. Once I get things straighten away with Tony, I’ll pull the trigger, so to speak 😆

If you buy scuba tanks, do not buy them new. Buy them used from the scuba shop you plan on filling at. They will then have a vested interest in you and will treat you right.
Used scuba tanks go for about 100.00 each, the cascade system can be purchased in parts for around $150.00 or less or from Joe Brancato for a little over $200.00 I think.
A new 88 cuft scba 4500 PSI tank is around 650.00 and the hose assembly is 150.00 or so.
I just bought a Shoebox compressor that fills to 4500 PSI scba tanks and will be selling my scuba tanks back to the scuba shop soon and will sell my cascade system here when the time comes. So if you decide later on to change systems, you just sell it and move up the ladder.

You so much better off getting two scuba tanks if scuba is the way you want to go.
Then you hook them up to a single fill line so you can open one and do the intial fill, and the close that tank and to the final top off fill from the second tank.
This is called cascading.
You see Texron, with one tank, that is filled to 3000PSI, after about three fills, then you only have left 2900 to put in and then 2850 and then2800 and it keeps going down.
That is why if you have two tanks, the 2nd one with the top off fill takes it from 2900 to 3000PSI and uses very little. When the first tank gets to around 2500 PSI, then refill it at the scuba shop and the 2nd tank becomes the initial fill tank you fill with and you top off with the one you just filled.
Glen, you can see in the 2nd picture, that braided line has a female quick disconnect on it, like a disconnect on a compressor for air tools, but it is rated for 4500PSI. You will need a fill adapter for your AF tank, with a male disconnect on it, which is in the 2nd picture also, if you buy a new AF Talon SS it will come with a fill adapter.
The other way you can go is to buy a scba tank, that is the tank firemen have on their backs when they go into a fire. It can be filled to 4500 PSI, and if you have a way to fill it, a fire department or a paintball store, it is the best way to go, but expensive, with it you will get many more fills and it is lighter when you need to pack it to your car to get it filled.

For filling the Talon tank from a scuba tank all you need is this fill adapter. Have the dive shop fill the scuba tank to 3500.

All good info here. Before going with a 4500psi tank, make sure you can get it filled to 4500psi. Call the dive shops before buying one. Walk in and ask the Firehouse/rescue Squad? Carry ’em a box doughnuts, when visiting the firehouse/Rescue Squad, it will make a difference!
The cascade scuba tank system works great, and Co2 can tide you over when scuba tanks are drained. Co2 is very quiet compared hpa. Sure alot less power, but costs alot less also. Not as hard on your basement backstop either.
