New stock for my Edgun with pix
Today I started work on a new walnut stock for my Edgun. Actually my grandfather started the work and I am learning. I did more work on this one so far than I did on the ERB stock. He must trust me a bit more this time. 😀 I chose a walnut blank that my grandfather cut from a tree on his own ranch in the 1950’s. The blank has quite a bit of fiddleback. I am going to change the angle of the grip just a bit and put a couple of finger grooves on it as well as a grip cap. Otherwise we are going to copy the original. One of the photos shows my grandfather working, he is 86 years old and is still building stocks like a pro.

Here are a couple more pictures from today’s work. It is coming along nicely. My grandpa has two buckets full of recoil pads that that he has left over from old jobs and I chose a nice black Pachmayr Decelerator; you know, to handle the heavy recoil 😀
I agree with NJ noodles to still have his wits and ability at 86 is great to be able to still have the desire to teach and the patiance to watch and let you learn is priceless .When your 86 i hope that pic and edgun are still hanging in your shop . My grand dad lived to 86 and still worked every day i lost my pop at 70 life is short enjoy it. Memories like the ones your making now are what lifes about for sure, looking foward to the finished product

welldone that man . good to see him still doing stocks at his age i,ll be happy if i,m still breathing at that age .

I admire your grandpa for having a skill that he is good at to keep going like that my hat is off to the man.
