New Synthetic Vulcan 25 new 38mm mod coming with side lever kit
I’ll start off by saying thanks to everyone here who made me purchase my first high end gun a gen 4 25. I won’t be eating for a few months thanks a lot. I also ordered a single shot adapter off eBay, the side lever kit and new 2017 38mmx150mm LDC from the man himself Evgeny. I was curious of a few things. Is the loud metallic ping noise an issue also with the gen 4 that I will need to resolve? Has anyone else tried the new LDC? Do you have any recommendations for a new owner of this awesome work of art I.E. Clean barrel and shoot, don’t clean barrel, etc. Thank everyone in advance for any comments and your time.

At One point it was said that part of the noise was due to this spacer in the air tube resonating since it wasn’t a tight fit or isolated. So I isolated it and made it tighter with the o-rings.
See guykuo post above about air spacer ringing.
I don’t think the size really matters but my friend only had 1 size o-ring groove cutter so that is what we used. 2 of the 0.5 x 18 filled the groove nicely.

Hi Hoy!
Disregard my earlier PM. Now I can’t recall what the last baffle mod was. I know there was two earlier, the washer style, and the cup/O-ring combo. Then I got my after market moderator and never bothered to check again because the gun became silent.
My Gen 2 has been modified and I can’t remember if Evgeny went back to the cups and O-rings, like they had in the Colibri. I do remember the first one was the welded, off-set washer design that didn’t really work all that well.
I can’t make a definitive statement because my gun has been modified.

Question for the knowledgeable experts……Is this the gen 4 shroud as advertised?

Yes, Ernest Rowe, always did say the spacer ring was the long ring. Damping that did help with the tube ring on my Vulcan. BTW, the usual “de-pinger” inside the main cylinder does not help on the Vulcan because the usually talked about air tube resonance of a wave bouncing inside the air cylinder isn’t an issue on the Vulcan.
Instead, the two main noises (hammer spring twang & air regulator spacer ringing) are the culprits.
PCP’s, the land of using the same phrase for multiple items – makes for great confusion. De-pinger can also refer to something to reduce hammer bounce.
The factory solution(s) seem to follow the ones here on the forum. I was wondering if something new had been developed.
The complete lack of ping is interesting. My Gen 2 took quite a bit of experimenting to tame that noise.
Does anyone have a picture of what the Gen 4 hammer & spring look like now? I’m curious to see if things have gone beyond the damper we were adding on the forum.
I’d be happy to post some pics when I go home for lunch. I think the major change was between the valve and regulator as the cause was resonance for the tube. I do have a silicone ring on my hammer spring as well.

Congratulation on your new Vulcan!

Thank you guys for the information. I was ready to order Donny’s Fatboy when Evgeny replied telling me about his new bigger LDC. So I figured I’d give it a shot and order Donny’s later with the adapter for use on any of my rifles. I think the same disease rolled through my area here in central Illinois. Just hit about a 150 yard radius around my house. Now the only birds that dare venture closer are song birds and our resident chicken hawk. Happy to say no ping is heard whatsoever. Just a loud whoosh which isn’t bad considering the power it’s producing. Not to mention the laser beam accuracy. This thing is beastly.

1.5″ x 7 5/8″ LDC for my .25 Vulcan and now when I shoot birds out of the tree in my backyard the dead one drops
like a rock and the other birds just stay sitting in the tree not spooked at all , just waiting for their turn to die . :5:

Ditto! That’s the exact same ldc I have and it’s the best unit for a .25 Vulcan. I can shoot all day from my back deck and the neighbors know nothing except their yard is full of dead sparrows. As I explain to them…”Lot of bird gizzard-worm infestation going around! Eats a hole right through them!”

Like Hoot said a good LDC will make a huge difference with the report of your Vulcan , that is why I got donnyfls’

For your information and peace of mind…I have a modified Gen2 and the “ping” has been resolved. All the new Vulcans come with a factory fix, so don’t even give it a thought. With a good moderator on it…my .25 Vulcan is shooting almost silent. My ear is right next to the breech and I don’t have any problems with a “ping”…it’s just not there to any noticeable degree. Hammer slap is near unnoticeable on mine, so don’t worry about it.
You made a good call getting the larger moderator. The gun can be loud and a good ldc eliminates that problem completely.

That looks very nice. Congratulations, you will enjoy it.
Actually due to one of your previous posts about the patchworm I also ordered that in all flavors with a bottle of their solvent and felt plugs. Thanks by the way it works great. I feel like a 5 year old on Christmas Eve full of anticipation waiting for my Vulcan to be delivered. It’s crazy. Do you know if the loud hammer slap/ping is present on the gen 4 models. I’ve read so many threads on here my mind is blown and can’t remember.

Yes, it was one of the more bizarre things discovered about noise on the Vulcan. Ernest first came up with the fix.
I never could quite understand how that part could ring despite getting clamped with 2 tons of force. Maybe it was loose enough a fit that only a portion was clamped leaving the rest free to ring. None the less, damping that part did reduce the “poong” noise that the Vulcan made upon firing. The o-rings damp the against ringing and center the clamping force.
