New Talon SS, New TAG member, need wisdom
Hi All,
I’m a life-long hunter, both shotgun and rifle, and have owned entry level bb/pellet guns since I was a kid. My son gave me a springer air rifle and a nitro-piston air rifle for Christmas to thin out the varmits in the garden. I love shooting them. What an upgrade from the old multi-pumpers. Since then I have spent a lot of time reading gun reviews and forums. I was amazed at the level of interest in the sport. Then I ran accross the TAG forum. I read the history of the forum and am impressed with the passion and knowledge of the founders/members.
After much research, I decided on the Talon SS. It came today and I fired several pellets using Co2. It is quiet, but not quiet enough for my hood. I have read many of the posts in the Quick Reference, Talon/Talon SS, Mods/Machinists, and Shrouds topics of the forum, and see there are many things that can be done to quiet a gun. I am interested in those mods that will not void the warranty, or increase the length of the gun.
I would be grateful if some of you might list mods that quiet the gun, in the order of their effectiveness. I know there will be different views on the relative effectiveness. I am intereseted in all your opinions. I look forward to your responses. Great to be a member here!

I use a halogen shop light for inside shooting and it works great for the prochrono!!!!
I taped a piece of butcher paper between the 2 upright difusers and hung a 100w light bulb above the butcher paper. Works great. 5 cent fix.
Spend the money and buy the light kit for the pro chrono. Around $70.00 and works great. I went through the same thing your doing until I ended up shooting by accident trying to get it in the right light. So I purchased a new one and the light kit.

I shoot in my garage and down the hallway in my house. My problem is the Pro Chrono doesn’t record shots fired in the house or in the garage. Have put lights under, over, to the side—–nada.
And you’re right about the ” hooked” thing. I”ll have a steady stream of UPS trucks bringing goodies for the next week.
Welcome to the madhouse, Nate. You can pack a box with newspaper and cardboard and do your chronograph testing in your garage, living room, hallway..where ever you choose. THere is no muzzle blast, or powder particles to give a false reading. Just place the muzzle several inches from the front of the chronograph and shoot. (I have a piece of light gauge sheet metal at the rear of my test box. I shoot .25 into it.) You are going to get so hooked. 😎

Thanks for the tip. I have a chrono but the winds been blowin between 30 and 50+ since I got the gun. Waiting for a break in the weather.
Turning it past 2 didn’t get any more velocity, just more noise.
My 2300S CO2 pistol is tunable and benefitted from a chrono. I set it just pass its stable velocity and stopped, saving fuel and noise.
Shooting my .22 TSS over the chrono on CO2 made me realize that the power wheel was just a loudness wheel.
Turning it past 2 didn’t get any more velocity, just more noise.
no need to send your gun out for a mod, just pick your builder and place your order 😉
@ gtbj & saw – Thanks so much for your responses. Sounds like 3″ would get me what I’m looking for. What are your recommendations? Would I have to send my gun in to get the upgrades, or can I get the parts and install them myself?

an addition of a few inches can make your gun so quiet you will think
it is not shootin right 🙄
To this day, I get that feeling, then I shoot at my pellet
trap and I know by the twang on the trap that pellet is moving
also when you get shrap metal lead particles out of the
steel trap ya know it is all good

If you are wanting to keep the stock length of your ss then I would say the only mod out there worth going for is and spending money on is the inserts built and sold by Subssonic, you can p/m him her at TaG.

now, if your not totally against to adding about 3 inches to the end of the frame…. well then there are many options as well as builders here that can give you an ss that is as stealth as a mouse fart 😉
