Q:

new to me Matador – shroud questions

i just purchased a used matador (woohoo) love the gun so far.

It is an early R2.5 model with the plastic baffles and threaded end on the moderator. I am looking for a tool or best method to remove the endcap on the shroud.

I saw someone with a bar with 2 inserts for the endcap, is this a tool i can purchase, or can someone with one provide critical dimensions so i could investigate making one at work?

anyone know the thread specs on the add-on ldc/shroud available on the early R2.5 models? looking at having one made.

thanks in advance.

Hey Ted you did a nice job on making that tool! I am assuming the tool would make for an easier job getting it apart 😯 Is it just screwed on no loctite or adhesive? you have to heat up! Looks like it is some kind of plastic or delrin? talking about the end cap not the tool.

Hi Lars. Welcome aboard and welcome to the Edgun owners club!

You can use needle nose pliers to remove the end cap.

I made this tool.

Sorry, I don’t have the dimensions for the pin size or spacing. You can get them with a caliper. If you don’t have a caliper, let me know and I will measure my R2.5 22 cal and post the specs.

I think that my early R2.5, 22 cal Matador is very quiet. It has the cups in it also. Ed changed the moderator and it has a one piece baffle on the later versions. I had the newer version baffle on my 25 long and my R3 25 long and it is slightly quieter than the R2.5 22 cal with the cups.

The muzzle tread size is M10 X 1.5, IIRC.

I have talked to Neil Clague: neilclague@comcast.net about getting one of his moderators for a BSA Lonestar project that I was working on.

He asked me how just how quiet I wanted the BSA to be? I told him that my Matador was very quiet and if he could come up with something that approached the Matador, I would be very happy!

He asked me if I had ever heard one of his moderators on the Matador. He said that his moderator is even quieter than the stock Matador’s moderator!

I sold the BSA; I never ordered Neil’s moderator so, I can’t say if it is any quieter than the Matador’s moderator.

Pin spanner wrench.

Pmsg Old Goat, he is very knowledgeable when it comes to Edguns
