New to PCP’s
Hello,
I have been reading the air rifle forums for a few months and finally got the ok from the boss to get an air rifle. From what I have read I have settled on the .25 cal, AirForce, but i’m not sure whether to go with the talon p, talon ss, or talon. I have a budget of about $600.00. ideally I would like it to be quiet enough to shoot in the neighborhood, and drop a coyote with a well placed shot. I look forward to all your input. the forum has been a great help.

We are still adding 6 and 9″ extenders to them virtually silent.
And with our new QCTH ….Quick Change Top Hat it has true power adjustment
so you get the best of both worlds.

The Condor SS is a great rifle but still not backyard friendly IMO.

RC should be able to speak about the sound from the Condor SS, he extended the Talon SS frame to cover an 18″ barrel before AF got their Condor SS going (he had converted it to a Condor tank and 257 barrel).
Not many people have the Condor SS so you may have some difficulty getting sound information.
Either way an aftermarket shroud will make it quiet, if it’s anything like using a 12″ barrel in a Talon SS (which is not very quiet in stock configuration really) you will need something.
1: would I be better off with a condor with an aftermarket shroud, or the condor ss in regards to cost and noise reducion?
2: I have been watching the yellow forum classifieds and most of the guns have been well over MSRP. granted most have mods, but they really seem to hold their value. Would I be saving much to buy used, or should I just order one from RL? If I did order one new, what additional stuff would I need besides a scuba adapter. I’m a diver, so I have tanks at the house.
3: why was the talon P so hyped up? when I met the guys from Airforce at shot show they made it appear to be the best thing since sliced bread.

I don’t think any of your choices are good.
Your far better off with a new Condor SS.
You can go down in power to make it more quiet and with that particular rifle you have the power to kill a coyote, with a Talon SS your really not at the power level for a reliable coyote killer.

With the Talon & Talon SS you won’t get enough power to shoot the medium/heavy 25 caliber pellets without upgrading to a Condor tank and hammer weight.
The Talon P will do it but the smaller tank gets less shots.
Will you be using an air tank or pump?
I started with a Talon SS and built it into a 25cal. In my experience it would have been better to get a Condor 25 and work down. It’s easier to get the Condor tank to shoot smaller calibers then getting the Talon tank to shoot bigger calibers.
The beauty of the AF platform is being to swap out the barrels. I would save a little bit more and go with the Condor or Condor SS.
Just about any way you go you will need an aftermarket shroud to get it quiet. Even a 12″ 177 barrel can be pretty loud in the Talon SS chassis, a little more quiet than a 22 rimfire but too loud to not draw unwanted attention. The larger the caliber the more noise. And if you want to get some good accuracy at distance you’ll likely want at least an 18″ barrel in the caliber of your choice.
IMHO talon ss with the sound lock kit. Remember you can shoot lower pressure for lower sound.
If you want pure target get 177 @1500psi with some bird removal capability.
22 is more expensive and needs more air but can be used at full pressure for small pest removal.
25 is heavy and has a rainbow trajectory compared to the 177 but carries a lot more power for the same psi.
