That may be because the ATF has no jurisdiction over air guns by federal law. . They really can’t approve or disapprove. At least not legally. I’ve got the wording here some where. I believe WOK has it as well.

As long as it isn’t readily adaptable to a fire arm with out modification, it isn’t a silencer. Thats why we call them LDC’s for -lead dust collectors-.

I have marked all I make for myself “FOR AIR GUN USE ONLY”.

If this was not the case, (adaptable without modification) possession of a lawn more exhaust would be a violation or the law.

By Federal Law, a Air Gun is not a Fire Arm. Nor can an Air Gun be considered a Fire Arm by any State. Although several do. Jersey for one. I don’t know if I would approach them. Especially with the new administration. Something about leaving sleeping dogs lie. Probably just give them ideas as how to control air guns! I would rather not make them at all than to give the ATF any thought at all about Air Guns. Our friends in the UK have already made that mistake! Now they are limited to 12 foot pounds of energy. We have no such restrictions.

I can hear it now. ATF
— Why do you need a silencer on an air gun. They are already very quiet? Well we have Air Guns that are very powerful and LOUD. Hummm says the ATF. We need to check into this. And let the games begin! Please take a look at the post of Air Guns imported into this Country from around the world. They are already legal.

As to Air Force not getting an OK, by definition, once to cap has been installed, it will quiet the report by more than the one Db. required to qualify it as a silencer by Federal law. But not If and only if it applied to Air Guns. The same system on a Fire Arm is considered a silencer by the ATF. So as usual, Air Force is misleading us. Very typical for them.

I haven’t started up the new production with the bar feed machine yet but I have made around a hundred or so suppressors for law enforcement and private individuals the only
catch is they had to do a form 4 that was for firearms use.

I am designing a suppressor that I will be submitting to the ATF firearm technology branch for approval for air rifle use only.

The moderator/suppressor will be incorporated into the barrel so it wont be able to be taken off without sending it back to me for repair or if the barrel needs to be replaced so far it is the only way I believe they will approve the design.

The whole moderator/suppressor issue is to gray of a area and with the type of license I have I really have to be careful or they will throw me in prison I do have a real good chance to get it approved so we will see what happens.

I had talked to air force and they have tried a couple of times to get one approved but they where not successful doing so

how many silencers have you got made so far?

The next toy for the shop is going to be a wire EDM machine probably in 8 months

Brad, I’ve been admiring those for a few year now. Your very lucky to get to play with toys like that. No way I could ever afford something like that for the Knife Shop!

Did you notice that right under General where you posted this, there is a machinist section? It would fit in there well. I for one have a lot to learn. I would love to have a EDM. And a Water Jet. Now that would really help in getting those Lovett Knives Out! πŸ˜€

I know something that will sell guaranteed and it will be perfect for those with a CNC.

Hmmmm….who should I give that idea too?

Well we have been waiting long enough..what is the big better mousetrap you have up your sleeve??

My GOD, i think i have a hard on.

That was super awesome………DAMN!

the company that bought the lathe has no where to put it

the owner he can finally get it out of the storage where it has sat for over 2 years

hmm..
step 1 drop 200k on a lathe,
step 2 pay 2 g’s for shipping.
step 3 realize you dont have anywhere to put it.
step 4 put in storage
step 5 admit you have more money than brains πŸ˜†

I forgot – Congrats !

Lol so i’m going to assume they’re letting you borrow it and you didn’t spend almost 200,000$ on it ..that’s crazy

You really don’t need live tooling for making baffles the company that bought the lathe has no where to put it plus you have to be a class 3 dealer to produce the part so I would say I really looked out and so did the owner he can finally get it out of the storage where it has sat for over 2 years ill be posting some pic’s of the shop when it is all done in the next month or so πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ 😈

I would say give it to Yellow so he gets off his butt and completes that CNC upgrade of his!!!!!!

Force him to PRODUCE!!!!

Walter….

You mean theres more to it than just using it as a x/y/z power feed? lol

Right now I’m REALLY busy at work and I’m going back to school (Where I work is paying so I figure why not get a PhD out of them.. its not even in the field I work in, but they don’t care) so its going to be a WHILE before anything comes out of the basement.

My first guess would be shrpshotr28 his work looks like it came off a cnc.. secondly I would guess selphb he makes pretty knobs.. πŸ˜†
one rule of thumb..a real pretty part a little out of tolerance will pass inspection before a on sized one that is rough as a cob…

I’ll definitely take that as a compliment. Self taught, manual 3-in-1 machine, and learned everything I know the hard way πŸ˜†

A small CNC is in the works though. Just something about working with metal, taking a piece of solid bar or bare metal and turning it into something useful that I get a lot of gratification/enjoyment out of. The CNC will really open doors for the creative juices to flow without restriction.

how much for one of those?

Between the lathe and bar feed machine new it would go for $150,000.00-$180,000.00
+$2000.00 S&H not including any tooling that will be another $20,000.00 the reason for the machine at the new shop we have a contract to make silencers for a class 3 dealer out of titanium

Brad that is very cool. And I bet they go for more then a couple hundred bucks πŸ˜€

Do you need live tooling for a sliencer?
What is the tolerance of the ID end to end?

Lol so i’m going to assume they’re letting you borrow it and you didn’t spend almost 200,000$ on it ..that’s crazy
