Q:

New TT AAA Condor SS

I just plunked down a deposit on a new AAA Condor SS. I’m in for a rough 6-8 weeks. I don’t remember waiting on Santa Claus being this nerve wracking.

I’ve got a serious feral dog / cat problem. I started hunting a break-barrel, but I needed something quieter than stock. I ran across the Condor, and ended up here trying to learn enough to decide if the AirForce guns were worth the price. Somehow I went from a cheap springer to a high-end custom PCP in the process. I’m not sure how, but I’m pretty sure I made the right decision. As a kid, I’d burn through a brick of. 22 rimfires in a good weekend. Now that my kids are raised, I’ve got time for such things again.

So how do I keep from gnawing my fingernails to the knuckles waiting for Christmas?

Since you’re looking for low power and high accuracy, and maybe quick and nimble as icing, you might look at the Talon. Upgrades for accuracy and consistency can make a difference, but it may well be fine for your needs with just a pro tune. In my experience, accuracy is most influenced by lots of shooting. You’re probably more interested in snap shots than hundred yard precision. Or reliable more than exotic. I want a best-of-all-worlds performance and paid for it in tradeoff. It sounds like you’re looking for something else.

The AirForce guns are accurate and reliable. The Talon is middle ground, the Condor is a muscle-bound Talon. The AAA is Condor steroids. If I wanted a ballet dancer, I’d start with a Talon. I’m sure Tony can teach it to pirouette.

quote John-in-Texas:

Your best bet is to head to Talon Tunes and look at the AAA page. I’m looking for the illusory do-it-all gun and this seems a good starting place, but I’m looking for a utility gun first. It might be less than ideal, or more likely overkill, for a hobby gun or whatever you’re looking for.

I looked at Tony’s page there, but for me it is like, well, OK you can do these things, but are they necessary? The set screws for the trigger, for example, perhaps apply to the old trigger and not the new one on the Condor SS? Polishing and better O-rings sound good. Not sure what porting the valve would do for me.

My application is Ratting. Throw in some tree-rats at higher power. For my primary app, rats, I need the Micro-Meter tank to (hopefully) get me down to 12-15fpe. AF tells me that the MM-tank on Talon SS (12″ bbl) gets me to 10fpe, so I thought going with 18″ bbl would just about get me where I want.

I like all the flexibility that the Condor SS offers. Since Condor SS already comes with the latest quieted 18″ bbl, it seems to be the best starting point.

Your best bet is to head to Talon Tunes and look at the AAA page. Basically, the AAA Condor includes all of Tony’s mods. There are upgrades to improve power and accuracy while quieting it enough for the burbs. I need to deal with varmints up to coyotes and knock jays and crows out of the orchard, hopefully at 50+ yards. They annexed my place into the city limits, so I need to pretend I’m behaving, more or less. Everything’s a trade off, but I’m betting the AAA will get me in “close enough” range.

Tony claims 80 ft lbs with plenty of accuracy for my needs. I popped a cotton mouth with a .38 revolver one recent morning. The AAA has gotta be quieter than that. I’m looking for the illusory do-it-all gun and this seems a good starting place, but I’m looking for a utility gun first. It might be less than ideal, or more likely overkill, for a hobby gun or whatever you’re looking for.

I’m relatively new to this forum. I had gone from Talon SS in favor of the M-rod, but now I’m back with Condor SS. Just finalizing my wish to get a Condor SS. What do you folks get with the “AAA” Condor SS that is not in the Regular Condor SS. I thought the Condor SS from AF had all the latest stuff:
1. New trigger and new safety
2. Completely shrouded 18″ bbl.
3. The larger frame compared to Talon.
4. The new Sound Baffles included.

What are the mods Tony does and what problems do they solve?

I’m two weeks into the interminable wait for my Condor and already problems. I congratulated myself just this morning on my astonishing patience. I was out and about so swung by to check on my 80 year old mom. First thing, she announces she wants a kid’s bolt action .22 to deal with crows and jays in the orchard, squirrels in the vegetables, and them damned wild dogs in the chickens.

I was proud as could be, and told her I had it covered. Then she explained what she has in mind. I’m pushing sixty (hard) and I think my mom just took away my pellet gun. It seems that there’s fixing to be a quiet war break out hereabouts and the Blue Jays are in for a bad time. I may need a Talon .22 to trade for my gun back.

Any opinions on the Talon P?

In the world of pcp custom air rifles, 6-8 weeks is a short wait. Quality builders always take time.

I “dispatch” feral cats a lot. A live trap and your springer can help deal with them while you wait. Even with the best rifle, ferals often come out at night, so traps are a helpful tool. The Condor will prove a valuable asset for use when you are awake and able.

When tony finishes your rifle, you’ll likely be able to shoot “feral” acorns! He stresses accuracy and the oak trees in his region make small acorns. 😉

When I was waiting for my AAA Condor I was lucky had a Benjamin Marauder .25 to play with. Now that I have my Condor from Tony the Marauder is a safe queen a and occasional loaner when I have a guest that wants to go shooting with me. I always take the Condor so as to have the natural advantage. You will be thrilled with what Tony builds for you. I don’t believe you could do better. He builds an unbelievable rifle and his communication and service before and after you get your rifle is second to none. He’s a great man to deal with whose done a lot for this sport. And he’s as honest and generous as anyone I’ve ever dealt with. However you handle the wait, it will be more than worth it when you get to start shooting it. Congratulations on making a great decision.

Congratulations….

Soon your problem will become…not a problem.

I have 4 mods from Anthony: Vented Front Bushing, Moderator, Hammer Slap Mod, and One Piece Top Hat. All quality stuff that does what it claims to do. I am sure what ever you get from this man will be of the utmost quality. Please leave pictures or video when you get it. Excited for you. 😀

I can’t wait to see what Tony does to the SS. I’m sure it will be an awesome rifle.
I watched every video, read every review and waited impatiently just to get a factory stock gun so I can only imagine how tough it would be to wait on a custom one. I think the wait will be worth it.
